Revolution price revealed?

Wii News | So how much will it be?
As many readers may know, interviews with Nintendo staff typically reveal nothing concrete. Often hints are thrown out, but who could have pictured the Revolution controller from the tiny scraps of info we were thrown before it's full unveiling? Well, in a huge break from tradition, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed something concrete in an interview with Yahoo news Japan - and it's even about money!

Discussing the potential price point of Nintendo's upcoming console, Iwata was keen to make clear that the Revolution will be competitively priced, and confirmed will be released at US$300 or less. While this is only a maximum price, it is still higher then some were expecting.

Assuming the upper threshold mentioned is at least near the actual launch price, this would mean the Revolution will be about the same price as the Xbox 360 core package, which comes without an external hard drive. Given that no hard drive has been confirmed for the Revolution, and that the same hardware suppliers are providing the key chips for both consoles, will the two consoles be rough equivalents?

Still no news on the release date - although there are some (currently unsubstantiated) rumours that it will be sooner then we think, some even suggesting May. We'll keep you posted on anything that comes to light!

Dammit, I was going to write this one up icon_smile.gif

Don't know what to make of this really. Does seem a tad expensive given what we've heard about it being affordable and all, but like you said, it isn't the actual price.

Hopefully it does come in at a lower price once the official word comes in, something a bit more significant than $10 lower. I'd still pay that to get my hands on the controller.

Australia tends to get a good deal when it comes to Nintendo hardware. Hopefully this will follow through to the revolution.

Indeed, I think we have the cheapest DS and GCNs in the world, and our gaming prices for those are pretty good as well if people know where to shop around.

Anyway on the news story, it's expected that it would be cheaper then all of the competition's launch price, which is where I assume you guys wrote this article up from icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, one thing - the Rev has a confirmed 512 megs of flash memory instead of a HDD icon_wink.gif

My prediction (meaning I'm pulling it out of my ass icon_razz.gif ) is for a $399 launch in Australia and a $ $250 US launch.

That estimated price tag of US$300 ain't all that bad, considering how expensive the Xbox 360 retails for.

4cr is reporting the article just said it would be cheaper than the 360, which was obvious from the beginning.

I agree. $ 500 at MAX, 300 at the cheapest. (Even cheaper then the PSP then.) Hope it comes with the "normal controller" as well.

Sound familiar anyone? That was the scheduled Gamecube launch price here if I recall, but then it was reduced to $330 within the last month or fortnight before the release.
Well, if it did release at this price or thereabouts, I'd be happy enough.

GCN - Yes. It's still about $99 in the US, which is considerably more than $99 AUD.

DS - No. I've seen it for as low as $99 USD, which equates to about $135 AUD.

^ I think they may have been talking about launch, in which case we got it very cheap at $199(I think that was it).

I hope that price includes some goodies. If not than they really are going to duff the "low price point" advantage. It is almost certain that MS will have dropped the 360 price by the time Rev launches and if Nintendo are going to sing and dance about their machine having a low price point, they need the moves to go with it.

Thats suprisingly high for the 'affordable' console, unless the secret extra feature Nintendo have been talking about is some sort of wonderous, magical item that can create money, make dinner and clone things.

If the console is exactly what it is now I wouldn't want a price higher than US$200 and about AU$300. Sure, I'd probably buy it if it was more, but I would feel ripped off.
