Wii price drop

Wii News | How does $100 off sound to you?
The Wii has received its first price drop in Australia and New Zealand. Starting tomorrow, 29 April 2010, the Wii will be sold for AU $299.95 (NZ $399.95).

This price drop of AU $100 comes soon after the AU $50 drop which recently occured for the Nintendo DSi, which was introduced to make space for the DSi XL. Could Nintendo be gearing up for the release of a new home console? However, as many forumers have pointed out, it is more likely due to slowing sales or the strength of the Australian dollar.

Since its launch, Nintendo has sold over 1.79 million consoles in Australia.

How long overdue?

At least they didn't wait until Move / Natal release months, would have looked more like panic then.

Very impressive, I don't need another but I never would have thought Nintendo would do this. Must be trying to cut MS and Sony's market share. It's not like they needed to drop the price but maybe this is a sign of a new sku for the Wii? Maybe one that includes Motion+ and/or balance board?

If the black Wii was $299 I would SO buy one.

A $100 price drop has increased by interest level in buying a Wii by 500%, therefore it's still 0.

Baseball + Overlord + wii sports.

If it was up to me, sports shouldn't be counted as a GAME persay. More of a tech demo.

But it will be interesting to see how Jb/Harvey/Target/BigW/Kmart/WoW react to this new price shakeup in the coming weeks.

Well it shouldn't be counted anyway since it comes free with every console from nintendo. EB et al just like to make it sound like they are giving you a better deal by including it in the numbers.

^ we dont at work. We've been running a deal where it was 388 + 2 games. 2 games being 2 out of the pre determined set of 5-6 games. Wii sports was not included. So I guess it differs from place to place.

I remember during xmas I think it was. Good guys I think it was, or WOW ,did some ridiculous thing where they literally listed out EVERYTHING seperately to make it sound better. Something to the effect of

1 x wii console
1 x wiimote
1X nunchuck
1X sleeve
1X wrist strap
1X wii zapper gun
1X links cross bow training
1X wii fit board
1 X wii fit game

for X price.

I lol'ed. So hard.

Eh? So you have a bloke at where ever it is you work who's job it is to open up each Wii Box and remove the copy of Wii Sports? Then tape the box back up again?

W.T.F?

Zhou does mean Wii Sports wasn't one of the 2 bonus games.

with any luck, this will make way for a wii + galaxy 2 bundle for somewhere in the 300-350 range...

You know it really is tempting, on the back of the release of Monster Hunter.

Lets wait and see what bundles eventuate.

Hm, you can get it for under 150USD here in the States. Nintendo is STILL holding out on Australians. :/

Whats the best deals going for the Wii atm?

I'll wait for it to get under $200 at the least and even then, it would have to be an appealing bundle.
