Epic Mickey could appear on other platforms

Wii News | Mickey may make the transition to other platforms.
In a post-keynote interview at the DICE 2010 Summit, Gamasutra caught up with Disney executives Steve Wadsworth and Graham Hopper, with the duo discussing the decision to make Epic Mickey a Nintendo Wii-exclusive, while also bring up the possibility of the title appearing on other platforms in the future.

Hopper is of the belief that Epic Mickey's core ink-and-paint gameplay mechanics would seem a natural fit for the Wii's motion control system. Of course, development of Epic Mickey the announcements of Project Natal for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3's motion controller, which Hopper cites could have turned the game into a multi-platform title.

Wadsworth too echoed Hopper's sentiment, though keeping the possiblity of the title appearing on other platoforms alive, stating, "That's not to say that we won't go to other platforms [in the future]."

Epic Mickey is due later this year on the Nintendo Wii.

The original Game Informer reveal for Epic Mickey made brief mention that the game was for Wii/PS3 but Disney said that was a mistake by Game Informer. Would make sense though with the PS3 wand. Small chance that because Sony are waiting for E3 before announcing any wand games, Disney were forced to only reveal the Wii version. Microsoft are using the same strategy for the Natal lineup reveal, and I'm sure Disney would find a way to integrate Natal into the game. I guess it's possble Epic Mickey could be a Wii/PS3/360 game. Which would be awesome.

PC?

I'd much rather play this one on one of the HD systems, the in-game visuals on the Wii don't do the original concept art justice.

Looks like a bad Rayman game.

It needed to look like a polished Nintendo or Rare 3D platformer.

Wii can have it. It wouldn't sell on PS3 or 360.

Which concept art? The really old stuff, like mecha-zombie Goofie and all that? Cos that's not the game at all now. Not because of system resources, but because Warren and Disney decided it wasn't the direction for the title. "Too dark" or something.

Lame. Dark, steampunk Disney in the vein of American McGee's Alice would have been awesome. Guess I'll go back to ignoring the game =\

I'm sure once the developers are made aware of this they'll halt production.

I was talking about this image, which is the first one I remember seeing released for the game: http://www.offworld.com/assets_c/2009/07/em11beach_attack-thumb-620x340-24110.jpg

I was disappointed when I first saw in-game images of the game, it just didn't seem to match that really striking image I had in my head.

and a damn shame too. icon_sad.gif

"American McGee's Disney" could've been quite a visual treat. i'm still watching this, but i'm far less excited with the chosen art direction.

Yeah, thats the old art. There was quite a bit of it that got leaked. Its from conceptual stages of development and the game ended up being taken down a different path.

So even if it was on the HD twins you probably wouldn't be getting that.

Yeah that's pretty disappointing then. I'm surprised they're bringing Mickey into a starring role in a video game at all.

Warren is a huge Mickey fanboy. Crazy big. Disney are also under new management now. The last few years their management has been horrible, very greedy. The new guy is pretty much overhauling the company and focusing on deliverying quality goods.

Disney picked up Warren's studio I believe and comissioned them to do Mickey. Warren jumped on the idea because, as said, he's a massive Mickey fanboy.

I'm torn on Epic Mickey. On one hand I think the visuals of the game are really disappointing, not the art but the actual rendering. The Wii isn't a beast but can pump out nice looking stuff if you have a capable engine. But on the other hand its Warren, and he makes pretty **** amazing games, and seems to be very passionate about this.

I guess we'll see more at E3.
