New Super Mario Bros. Wii bargain round-up

Wii News | Jump on heads, wear costumes and break bricks for a reduced cost.
It’s not every year that Nintendo releases a new Mario platform game, so there’s quite a bit of hype surrounding New Super Mario Bros. Wii. With the game likely being on top of every Mario fan’s Most Wanted list, we’ve compiled an Aussie price guide so that our readers don’t fork out the full retail price of $99.95.

In what comes as quite a surprise, most retailers are offering the game for $20 less than the suggested retail price, however two in particular stand out from the crowd. Toys ‘R’ Us comes out on top with their price tag of $69.99, while Kmart grabs silver by offering the game for just $75. Meanwhile, some of you may be interested in Big W’s introductory offer – you can pick up the game for $98 and obtain a bonus strategy guide. The strategy guide normally retails for $29.95 so you’re saving approx. $32 all up.

In case New Super Mario Bros. Wii has convinced you to finally jump on the Wii bandwagon, then there are several console bundles available that include a Wii and a copy of the game. We personally recommend purchasing Big W’s bundle as it also contains the fantastic Mario Kart Wii, plus a handy paperweight game called Cricket all for the low price of $428. If you feel like spending a little more money, then you can purchase Harvey Norman’s bundle for $488. It includes a Wii console, Wii Sports, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Play Control!: Mario Power Tennis and Wii Play with an additional Wii remote.

As with most big-name releases, there are a couple of trade-in offers available for those who don’t quite have enough money to splosh around. EB Games is offering the game for $19.95 when you trade-in four games. Exclusions apply though so you will have to check with your local store. GAME has a similar deal where you can grab the game for $29.95 by trading-in one game from their eligible titles list. Finally, JB Hi-Fi is offering the game for FREE when you trade-in three Wii games that don’t appear on their exclusions list (.pdf file).

A full list of specials can be found below. All prices were correct at the time of publishing but are subject to change. If you have anything to add to this list please email joseph.rositano@palgn.com.au or leave a message in the comments section.

I got it after midnight at Kmart in Burwood. Been playing it for 3 hrs and only half way through World 2.

Yoshi is back, its basically Super Mario World 2 and its pretty awesome.

Yeah that is ridiculous. Don't they normally have that deal for higher priced games, but you only have to trade in three titles? A lot of the titles they only allow you to trade you can get 30-40+ for if you trade them in normally anyway.

No, I just didn't think it was possible for them to get any worse. Boy is my face red. icon_biggrin.gif

The EB deal would probably be targeting mum and dad buyers, not gamers.

You're right about that. I was at EB on tuesday looking at pre owned games, and there was this mum and her kid looking through the catalogue and came across the 'trade 2/3 whatever and pay such and such price' and she thought it was the best deal ever.

Not surprising really, it's not like the mum would be the one playing the games, so they'd have little value to her. From her perspective, why do you need old games? You may as well trade them all and save some money and space. icon_razz.gif
