Nintendo store update - 18/09/09

Wii News | The Force is strong in this one.
It’s Friday again and you all know what that means – the PAL Nintendo stores have been updated. This week, the Wii’s Virtual Console library welcomes the Arcade version of Golden Axe and the SNES classic Super Star Wars. The WiiWare library also has two new additions in the form of Magnetis and Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 1. Not to be left out of this extensive update, the DSi Store is treated to the MySims Camera application.

Golden Axe originally hit arcades in the late 1980s, and has since been ported to several consoles including the Sega Mega Drive, Sega Master System and Game Boy Advance. In case you’re wondering, yes, the Mega Drive version has been available for quite a while on the Virtual Console. The main differences between the arcade and console versions are the graphics, and the console version also features two additional levels and some exclusive gameplay modes. The Arcade version of Golden Axe will set you back 900 Wii points.

Super Star Wars was originally released in 1992 and is a remake the NES game Star Wars. The title follows the events of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, and sees players control Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca as they take on the Imperial Empire. Despite being a move tie-in, the game is actually pretty competent and spawned two sequels, so it certainly won’t disappoint Star Wars fans. Super Star Wars will set you back 800 points.

Magnetis is yet another puzzle game for the WiiWare service. This one sees players connect magnets of opposite directions together. The idea is anything that falls between the magnets disappears and earns you points. There are a variety of gameplay modes on offer including Normal, Time Attack, Block Attack, Battle and Co-op, so for the price of 500 Wii points you get quite a bit for your cash.

Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 1 is an educational videogame designed for children aged between 3 and 6. It introduces youngsters to letters and numbers through mini-games which feature cute, colourful characters. For 500 Wii points, it sounds like the perfect game to expand the little one’s grey matter.

MySims Camera is a very basic application for the DSi console that lets you insert MySims characters into photos. We’re not too sure why you would download this - especially considering anyone with half-decent Photoshop skills could do the same thing on a PC – but regardless, not everyone can afford Photoshop and you have to start learning those skills somewhere. It will set you back 200 DSi points.

I'd like to see them make Star Wars Episode I, II and III in the same style of gameplay as the Original Trilogy games on the SNES.

And I thought I was the only one. If Capcom can do Megaman 9 the NES way surely Lucasarts can do this.
