Nintendo Store update - 21/08/09

Wii News | Better stock up on those Nintendo Points for this lot.
It’s Friday again and you all know what that means – the PAL Nintendo stores have been updated. This week, Nintendo has released the SNES classic Pilotwings, and the WiiWare games Bit.Trip Core and Arkanoid Plus! on the Wii Shop Channel. Meanwhile, the DSi Shop is treated to Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! and Pop Plus: Solo.

Originally released in PAL regions in 1993, Pilotwings is a flight simulation game which gives you lessons in plane flight, hang-gliding, rocket belt, helicopter flying and skydiving. The game was quite popular in its day and was known for its use of Mode 7 graphics, which allowed the game to generate 3D effects through the use of flat image rotation and scaling. The game will set you back 800 Wii points.

Bit.Trip Core is the sequel to Bit.Trip Beat, but does a few thing differently than its predecessor. Instead of bouncing blocks off of a panel, players are positioned in the centre of the screen and fire a laser beam in four directions (up, down, left and right). The objective is to destroy different patterns of blocks, all the while being immersed in the upbeat soundtrack and dazzling visualisers. The game will set you back 600 Wii points.

Arkanoid Plus! is yet another remake of a classic Taito game. Old school gamers should be familiar with this one – you control a paddle at the bottom of the screen and have to rebound a ball in a stage so that you destroy all blocks. The game will set you back 800 Wii points.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! is the third entry in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. The game sees players guide mini-Marios to a designated exit whilst avoiding various tricks and traps. For the creative types, there’s a neat level creator which lets you build and send stages to friends and family via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Service. The game will set you back 800 DSi points.

Pop Plus: Solo was developed in Australia by Nnooo and is a spiritual successor to the WiiWare launch title Pop. New features include an adventure mode, boss battles, and a mode which lets you set challenges for yourself, such as popping x bubbles in y seconds. At 500 DSi points, it’s a steal.
