Rugby League 3 for the Wii

Wii News | Off field scandals not included.
While the market for a Rugby League game is comparatively miniscule to, say, something like Madden or FIFA, we haven't been left out completely. Nearly four years after the original release of Rugby League 2, footy fans will have a fresh fix, with Rugby League 3 for the Nintendo Wii, aptly named with all the imagination of a front rower. Developer of the previous two titles, Sidhe, are back at the helm again.

The game will feature the obligatory Wii Remote motion controls, more than 80 licensed teams from the NRL, Super League, Toyota Cup, UK Championship, UK Championship 1, State of Origin, City v Country and international teams. Games will take place in 38 stadia from Australia, New Zealand, UK and France.

Gameplay features include defensive line controls, attacking strategy selection, team confidence, and AI support play. In an addition similar to top-line sports titles, you can build a champion team and sporting dynasty in the Franchise Mode. Here, you'll also be able to see the Dally M Player of the Year and Man of Steel, club records and the option to manually select the rep teams. In-game commentary will be provided by Channel Nine's Andrew Voss.

"We are extremely pleased to be publishing a new Rugby League title with such fresh features, content, and innovations across the board," said David Robles, Business Development Manager for HES. "Rugby League 3 is a significant and worthy addition to the franchise".

"The production team has been able to leverage significant past experience and extensive feedback from consumers in the development of this title" said Mario Wynands, Managing Director of Sidhe. "As a result, Rugby League 3 takes the series to new heights, delivering a richer, deeper and more immersive experience than ever before."

Footy fans can expect to see Rugby League 3 for Nintendo Wii in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and France in sometime in Q4 2009. The first screenshot can be viewed in out media panel.

Is this some kind of sick joke? At first I thought that it would just be a re-branding of RL2 for the Wii (well actually a re-branding of a re-branding due to the world cup edition) and then the proper RL game would be released on PS3/360, but it appears not. icon_sad.gif

YAY! The crowds look like confetti! It's a party every game!

yep really disapointed that its not coming to the ps3. oh well might dust off the wii for it.

I'd say it all comes down to development costs vs. expected profit. The development costs for 360 and PS3 are probably too much for a relatively small company like Sidhe. The expected profit from selling the game on those two consoles in the Australian market probably isn't considered worthwhile. It's a shame, because if it was on 360 I would probably buy it, but I don't own a Wii.

Cheap port with gimmicky controls.

The same laughable AI and crab-like running animations will surely be there once again.

If I ever won a massive lottery, I'd pay EA to make a Madden quality NRL game and this type of **** would never exist.

similar to top-line sports titles, the proper RL game, Enough said. Buy a Wii bcoz its not coming to PS360. I guess after the failure of one too many studios devs have gotten a bit nervous about costs.

@Phreakuency, Have you played PES? Ofcourse you haven't, you have no idea how much it kicks the ass of any other soccer game out there.

What does the Pro Evo Soccer series have to do with the Rugby League series apart from them both being sports titles?

Could you phrase that in a way that actually makes sense? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

If you were trying to say that EA aren't the only one's that make good sports games wav79, I know. I don't even think Madden is that great, but it's a million times better than any NRL game will ever be.
