First up, the sequel is moving back into your lounge room. New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be coming to the Wii (if you couldn't tell from the title). The game will play similarly to New Super Mario Bros. in that much like older Mario games, the objective is to move to the right of the screen and save the princess from the evil Bowser. But while some things stay the same, some change. The game will feature four player co-op play, with Mario, Luigi and two Toads all playable on the same screen. It is a shame that the third and fourth spots are filled with two Toad colour variations rather than other prominent characters from Mushroom Kingdom.
Mario will also be able to utilise two new suits in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. He can wear a propeller suit and a penguin suit. The propeller suit will let Mario fly into the air for short distances and the penguin suit (which changes Mario into 'Penguin Mario') will make the ice levels just a little bit easier. In terms of how the game will play, players can turn their Wii Remote on the side but there is no word yet on whether the game will contain support for the classic controller. Still, fingers crossed.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii will also contain a brand new multiplayer mode. In the multiplayer mode players race against each other, attempting to place first while also collecting as much coinage as possible. At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on their score, the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.
While Nintendo has been unsurprisingly tight lipped about New Super Mario Bros. Wii this hasn't kept our excitement under wraps. New Super Mario Bros. Wii already looks set to be one of the biggest Wii games of Christmas 09. As long as New Super Mario Bros. Wii has a variety of levels and that familiar addictive Mario gameplay, we'll be lining up for our copy.
