Pre-E3 2009: New Mario and Wii Fit titles on the way?

Wii Rumour | And this year, as well.
After Sony's rather obvious slip up yesterday, it seems that Nintendo will also have less surprises when its conference occurs on Wednesday morning AEST. Japanese subscription news service, Nikkei.net, has let loose of reports of the widely rumoured Wii Fit Plus, a follow-up to the fitness tool, Wii Fit.

According to Nikkei's English-language edition, Wii Fit Plus is due for a late Q3/early Q4 release in Japan. The service reports that the game "will enable users to compete with each other over the Internet. It will also offer gentle exercises for the elderly, and will respond to player inputs more precisely than the current version." There is no mention of price, exact date, release in other regions and whether the new Motion Plus sensors will come into play or a new and improved balance board will be released.

But wait, there's more. Nikkei's Japanese-language edition also has reports of a 'new' Mario title due for release in Japan by year's end. Aside from the line that Nintendo is hoping that the the game will reinvigorate flat-lining Wii sales, there are no other concrete details available at this time. So from exactly which Mario franchise this game will come from is unknown, but it seems a little too early for a follow-up to Super Mario Galaxy.

We'll be blogging the Nintendo E3 conference live, so we'll be on hand to bring any potential confirmations or denials very soon.

I predict another Paper Mario game, but RPG kind like on N64 and GCN, not the platformer type of Super Paper Mario.

Hmmm too soon for a similar Galaxy adventure

It could be a lot of things, but i think most likely a:
* Paper Mario (as tootie mentioned), hopefully on DS/DSi - last one came out in '07
* Mario Party, hopefully with online - as 8 and the DS versions came out in '07
* Mario Golf - last one to come out was in '04
* another Mario Hoops - last one came out in '06
* Mario VS Donkey Kong - last one came out in '06
or we could be getting ahead of ourselves and this could simply be the Mario & Luigi 3 on DS....

Mario Golf Wii would be nice. I totally doubt it will be a Platformer or Kart game. Paper mario would be cool too.

It can't be Mario & Luigi 3, because M&L3 has already been released in Japan, and the proposed game would be released by the year's end.

New Super Mario Bros. 2?! I certainly hope so. I love that game so much I beat it on four seperate occasions! It was just too short, too easy and not enough secrets. There's a good chance...

Luigi's Mansion 2 would be totally awesome. If both Luigi's Mansion 2 and New Super Mario Bros. 2 were announced at E3, it'd be a successful E3 for me. icon_biggrin.gif

Mario Party 9 would be very likely. Let's hope it'll be more engaging than Mario Party 7 and 8 were.
That is, actually be worth playing on your own, multiplayer not getting boring for veterans. While we're here, Nintendo should stop making up crazy board scenario's that no one plays like one-way and "can't see where you're going" boards, but keep the casino, multiple star buying and real estate ones. Actually, how about bringing back some of the minigames from the past that were actually thoroughly fun? And why can't we score bonus coins in normal minigames nowadays? Mario Party sure has strayed from its original formula...
