Nintendo Store update - 22/05/09

Wii News | An awesome foursome.
Today’s Friday and you all know what that means –the Australian and European Nintendo stores have been updated. This week, the WiiWare titles Crystal Defenders R2 and Penguins & Friends: Hey! That’s My Fish! have been added to the Wii Shop Channel. Meanwhile, the DSi Store is treated to two new games as well in the form of Art Style: PiCOPiCT and Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity.

Crystal Defenders R2 is the second episode in Square Enix’s tower defence series. In case you missed R1, the game sees you prevent waves of monsters from stealing a cache of crystals by strategically placing units in a maze. Each unit obviously has their own strengths and weaknesses, so variety is a must if you intend to protect the crystals. It’s worth noting since R2 is a continuation rather than a fully fledged sequel, it’s a little more challenging than the previous release. The game will set you back 800 Wii points.

Penguins & Friends: Hey! That’s My Fish! is based on the board game That’s My Fish! Your primary objective is to hop around a board collecting fish, but as you collect fish you also take away the tiles so there’s some strategic elements involved to maximise your score and isolate other players. There are 15 boards to play on and the option to go solo or compete against up to three friends. The game will set you back 800 Wii points.

Art Style: PiCOPiCT is the sixth Art Style game to be released in PAL regions. The game is quite a quirky little puzzler and is comparable to titles such as Picross and Tetris DS. Your objective is to move blocks from the bottom of the screen under falling blocks of the corresponding colour. As simple as this sounds there’s one more element – each stage actually has an 8-bit sprite character that you’re trying to recreate using the blocks. So, if the blocks happen to be the same colour and in the same position as they would be in the sprite image they’ll begin to unmask the character on the top screen. Confused? It might pay you to take a look at this screenshot to get a better idea of how it works. The game will set you back 500 DSi points.

Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity is based on the mobile phone game of the same name from the folks at Gameloft. Not too much is known about the DSi version, though it mainly involves players trying to become a pop star. There are apparently 38 different locations divided across 10 environments to explore, and you’ll be required to talk to people, perform live shows and form friendships in order to rise to stardom. The game will set you back 800 DSi points.

PiCOPiCT is AWESOME. One of the best purchases on the DSi at the moment.

Didn't know they were releasing R1, R2 and R3 seperate. They are all in the one game/price for iPod and PS3...

PiCOPiCT is DSi Ware's killer app. No doubt about it.

Picked it up about six weeks ago off the Japanese DSi Ware store along with the five other Art Style games, and it has taken up about 90% of my playtime with the series.

At the start of April I posted up a video on Youtube of me playing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o78eLNZhlwI

I'm much better at it now, haha.

Yeah, they're releasing them seperatly for WiiWare for some reason. Probably due to the lack of a HDD (which is complete bull now due to the new firmware update) and/or to cash in. Or it could be because Nintendo supposedly have restrictions on the file size of every WiiWare title. Not too sure to be honest.

Okay, it's 800 points.

Special thanks to Adam for finding that out for me.
