Red Steel 2 requires MotionPlus

Wii News | Otherwise you'll miss the 'core experience'.
Ubisoft has confirmed that its sequel to Red Steel will only be compatible with MotionPlus-enabled Wii controllers.

The Wii MotionPlus has not been released yet, with the accessory expected to be ready next month. The Wii MotionPlus will attach to the end of a standard Wii remote and will use a sensor and a measure of acceleration to track a player’s arm position, giving more accuracy in relation to what happens on-screen.

“It’s a huge risk,” Red Steel 2’s creative director, Jason Vandenberghe, told the latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine (via Dpad).

“We have no idea what the penetration rate for Wii MotionPlus will be. We assume high. We would like it to be high. I would love to say to you that it’ll be compatible with just a regular controller, but the gameplay simply isn’t there without MotionPlus. That core experience just isn’t there without it.”

I see this as a good thing.

Good thing that ubi's doing it... but the motion plus is one of those addons which should have been built into the controller anyway, and i doubt most of the mum's and dad's are going to buy a motionplus to play redsteel.

This was already known wasn't it? Looking forward to seeing how having Motion Plus could alter the gaming experience.

But most of the mum's and dad's aren't going to bother with this title anyway. Can see this doing well, this is a game for the hrdcore gamers, and they're the ones that are going to buy the motionplus anyway.

I dare say it will be thrown in with the game (or have bundle options). The same with Wii Sports Resort.

I think at E3 Nintendo will announce that a new wiimote will be available to buy later on in the year and all new Wii's sold will include this remote.

Both of those would be good ideas Leon. Nintendo/Ubi really need to bundle it with the game if they want people to buy Red Steel 2. The very fact that you're getting a gameplay enchancing accessory with the game would probably be enough to draw some people's attention, as they'd like to try it out. I can see the Wii Remote v2 happening, it makes a lot of sense and is surely possible. We all know Nintendo have the money to make it happen.

Doesn't matter if mums and dads dont buy the wm+ or care for it. Wii Sports Resort will sell millions and will be either bundled in with the console or heavily promoted to the 50 million people who bought the Wii bcoz of Wii Sports to begin with.

Looks to me like the headline of this one should be "Red Steel 2's creative director admits the first game sucked."

Or he admits that it was overambitious and simply not possible to achieve what they actually wanted to do with the hardware on offer, now that they can they'll deliver what they'd always planned to but were never able to.
