Nintendo Store update

Wii News | Four games to satisfy the masses.
It’s Friday again and you all know what that means – Nintendo has updated their Australian and European download services. To kick off the month of May, Nintendo has gone all-out and released four brand new titles. They include Bit.Trip: Beat for the Wiiware library, A Little Bit of... Dr. Mario and Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face for the DSi Store, and the Mega Drive title Galaxy Force II for the Virtual Console.

Bit.Trip: Beat is a rhythm game and is the first entry in the planned Bit.Trip series. The game is best described as Pong meets music, as players are required to control a paddle and bounce off waves of incoming block in time with the music. Oddly enough there’s a story which plays out as background imagery during normal gameplay, and there are also boss battles and a 4-player co-op multiplayer option. The game will set you back 600 Wii points.

A Little Bit of... Dr. Mario is essentially a bite-sized version of WiiWare’s Dr. Mario & Germ Buster which was released last year. There’s not much to say really; the title only features a single-player vs. CPU mode. Priced at 500 DSi points though, its considerable value if you want a quick check-up while on the way to work each morning.

Like the above title, Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face is a bite sized version of the Nintendo DS game Master of Illusion. For those that aren’t familiar with the series, the main attraction to it was that it taught you how to perform magic tricks, or at the very least let you perform them on your handheld. The DSi version is sadly quite lacking, featuring a mere two card tricks to satisfy the magician within you. It’s easy to see why, then, the game will make only 200 DSi points from your account disappear.

Galaxy Force II is an on-rails arcade shooting game which was ported to the Sega Mega Drive in the early 1990’s. In the game players pilot a spaceship and travel to six different locations, shooting down any enemies they see. Locations include Velteor, a planet covered in red hot magma, Orthea which is a giant gas planet with tornadoes and bird-like creatures, and Malkland which has giant worms and hazardous plants that can trap and damage your spaceship. The game will set you back 800 Wii points.

Bit.Trip Beat is awesomely awesome, and I'm overjoyed that it's finally arrived, but the controls take a little bit to get used to.

While holding the Wiimote in NES mode, roll forward (away from yorself) to move up, and roll backward (towards yourself).

Finally! Bit Trip Beat is here!

I thought it was never going to make it to our shores. I'm glad its here. Considering there's already murmurs of the next Bit Trip game in the works.
