Neither a remake or a port of the original Silent Hill on PlayStation, the game is instead described by producer Tomm Hulett as "a re-imagining". According to Hulett, “The characters play different roles, things don’t necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions. You still play as Harry Mason, you’re still looking for your daughter, and you’ll see familiar elements, but they’re all twisted to betray your expectations.”
A new feature that is being touted is the fact that 'your answers' will affect how the game unfolds, lending the feeling that the town, and by extension the game, is constantly 'watching' you and getting inside your head. The puzzles are also being designed around the idea of the Wii Remote interacting with the environment, with the solution always in the immediate vicinity, eliminating the backtracking which has plagued past games.
Images reveal updated graphics and re-designed characters, with Cybil now wearing a much warmer uniform and Harry wearing glasses. Fans of the Silent Hill series will also be amused (and possibly excited) to know that Hulett promises that there is a way through every locked door, rather than checking every single one to find out that most of their locks are broken. "It really feels like a new game,” says Hulett.
