Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games announced

Wii News | It had to happen sooner or later.
It's no secret Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has been a huge success on the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms. Despite being released over a year ago, the title continues to creep in and out of the Australian sales charts. Well, after several weeks of rumours circulating around the internet, Sega has officially announced a follow-up is in development, this time for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

Dubbed Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, the game will apparently feature all new mini-games based on the official competition schedule at the Winter Olympics including Alpine Skiing and Speed Skating. Additionally, there will be both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, as well as the ability to utilise the Wii Balance Board for certain sports in the Wii version. The project is also happening 'under the guidance' of Shigeru Miyamoto.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is scheduled to be released late this year on the Wii and Nintendo DS.

I liked the first one, so I wonder what this will be like. Hopefully it isn't just the same game with added snow. I hope most of the events are different.

Could be interesting. Still won't likely pick it up.

I'm a big fan of the Winter Olympics; the summer rubbish just passes me by but I can't get enough of the skiing, skating, hockey... awesome. Mario vs Sonic ice hockey is something I could see myself buying.

Probably wont be interesting. But I'm a consumer whore for Mario and will pick it up.

Some motion+ support would be nice, Sega. That and some quality.

You and your hockey. icon_razz.gif

But nah, I hope they have lots of different sports from the first games. By the sounds of it, they will. And, as a bit of a tangent, I'm so glad Nintendo aren't releasing any more Mario Party games. The Wii is chock full of party titles, and Mario and Sonic is more than capable of filling Mario Party's shoes. Lets just hope it feels like an improvement over the original Mario and Sonic rather than a rehash.

Being this is the WINTER games, I would say it's a safe bet the events will be different to those in the first game. ;)

Though the idea of Mario & Luigi doing a 2-man luge is just WRONG... icon_wink.gif

I enjoyed Sonic & Mario @ Olympics, but as a multiplayer game. I didn't want to have to unlock most of the games for multiplayer, but I persevered and unlocked a selection that was better.

Then I took it around to a friends with a 4:3 TV, and found out that they have SEPERATE SAVE FILES!!!!!

If either of these issues happen again, I'm not buying it. I have better games to play single player, and having seperate files for wide- and normal-screen TVs is just wrong and damn annoying!
