Wii HD coming in 2011?

Wii News | With more storage space and HD visuals.
The first speculative details about the successor of the Nintendo Wii have hit the internet, suggesting that the company is already demonstrating the console, which will definitely have HD capability included and may be released in 2011.

Dubbed Wii HD, the console is set to be the next-generation follow up to the Wii. According to What They Play, details at this point are incredibly scarce, but HD visuals are assured, as is a greater reliance on digital distribution and backwards compatibility. Hopefully that will mean a rather large slice of extra storage space, then.

The report cites increasing costs in Nintendo's research and development department as an indication that the new console is in the pipeline, with spending having tripled since the release of the Wii in 2006.

Of course, this is all rumour, and its highly unlikely Nintendo will make anything official given the Wii's storming success.

I want this to be true, it sounds fantastic. If the next Wii had HD and could match the other consoles, it'll be awesome with the HD graphics combined with the motion censor controls.

"Motion censor" controls? Only if it was designed in Australia, zeldamario...

HD visuals? Why? They mean nothing as far as Nintendo is concerned... it's all about the games, right!?! (the handful of Nintendo games worth buying and the hundreds of shovelware third party games not worth buying, that is)

But then, Nintendo also said internet connectivity was pointless in the past...

I've grown sick of motion controls, I hope they include a controller with the next Wii version and I hope they patch all games to be able to use it.

yeah motion controls and a crapload of gaming don't really go hand in hand i have noticed

I'm thinking that a rumour like this wouldn't serve Nintendo too well with their key demographic. Typically the sort of people who wouldn't be too enthusiastic about their new console soon becoming redundant. I can imagine the Mums right now "you mean there's another one coming out in two years? it never ends does it Timmy?! well forget it, you can keep your Gamecube".

^I see where you're coming from but I really don't think that those kind of mums would even hear this small rumour.

Actually that's very true. It would have to be much more than a little rumour.

After my own dissapointment with the Wii though, I'm not at all excited by this rumour. Strangely enough, I'd prefer to see Nintendo not make another console, and instead release their titles on one of the other platforms. There have been very, very few Wii releases that, for me, needed or gained anything from the motion control. They'd have all been better off just on a console with more power.

no they will buy the wii right up until a week before the new wii hd comes out then the kid says he/she doesnt want it and wants the new one.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I get caught up in the hype for the next Nintendo console. If ever I decide to pick it up, It'll only be after a year of waiting to shield myself from whatever bait and switch they're planning on this time. I'm still sore over the shit they pulled this generation icon_shifty.gif

I will have to agree with what everyone is saying. My Wii atm has a third layer of dust and its coming into the 4th layer. There is no way in hell i will be getting this nor will i get the wii 2. Pfft

EDIT: i wish that did happen Snixtor. If nintendo just made games for other consoles. That would rock right there imo.

I don't think that Nintendo are going to make just games quite yet. The Wii is making way to much cash for them. If the 'Wii 2: The Poo' (get it? ha? ha?) fails like the Dreamcast, then it is a possibilty. But thats going to be a cold day in hell before that happens.

Of course it won't happen but 1 can dream ^^.

Why so much hate for the Wii?

If you don't like the console, thats fine...but you don't need to say negative things about it or this new console.

Why don't we need to say negative things about it? There called opinions. The reason why so much hate is because we are sick of waiting for AAA++ games and sick of getting non gamer shit! I think that sums it up.

i think its more disappointment zeldamario, the wii started off with so much promise of all these fantastic titles and really now they are only a dime a dozen...

when i owned my wii, i was never able to put in a really long session and i think it had something to do with motion controls.....

i doubt they will become a dev on other consoles but i wouldnt mind some mario hd.

If all anybody had to say on a subject was positive, this would be a very boring place. I've got opinions based on my past experiences with a Nintendo console, so I bring it up in the thread mentioning the next console. What's so bad about that?

It's not a matter of needing to say something, it's a matter of wanting to. And I do. Very much. Why do you think I bother posting here? icon_wink.gif

The wii is capable of making attractive games still even without the need of "HD" graphics. But I'm talking about things such as Professor Layton and Phoenix wright type graphics, the games that can still become popular while in 2D.

I think if nintendo are feeling the burn from trying to create 3D then focusing on the 2D market can definitely provide to be profittable as it has done for both the DS and PSP.

I'd love to see a Phoenix wright game on the wii. Especially when you have to point the remote to the TV like in the game screaming "OBJECTION" for it to work. (can turn it off in menu after the novelty wears off T_T)

What titles made you purchase the Wii initially? Im assuming you got the console because there were titles you thought you'd really like in the first place as opposed to waiting for something good to be released?

By the time it comes out, Sony will have perfected their motion controls or who ever is doing it for the PS3 and of course the 360.

Rehashed Mario in HD, that's all you will be getting with the next Wii, but it won't matter for Nintendo, by then there will be an entire new generation of youth to spend even more money, if things don't slip up of course....uh oh.

so we will see some of this?

That's the point I was trying to make with my first post. I bought the Wii initially because of games like Excite Truck, Red Steel and Twilight Princess. Games for gamers with the promise of interesting and innovative uses of the control scheme.

Had I known they'd veer off course and start focusing on the mainstream market, I'd never have bought into it. Now that they've found so much success in that demographic, I have very, very little hope that they'll put much effort into catering to traditional gamers needs. One decent game every 6 months isn't going to cut it.

The way I see it, at the time of the Wii's launch, Nintendo could only appeal to the 'hardcore' market which is why they pushed games like I mentioned earlier. With the install base established and their name echoing on the horizon, they were able to do what they set out to achieve; carve out that nice little niche for themselves in the form of the friggen' huge mainstream market. Remember the 'Blue Ocean Strategy'? Well here it is, in full effect.

Now that they've got the casuals firmly in their grasp, they don't need to resort to 'bait-and-switching' to establish an install base like they did this generation (admit it, that's exactly what it was). The Wii is a large enough commodity that slapping a '2' at the end of it is all that they'll need to move units.

Maybe they might go back on some old tech like the old dual screen Donkey Kong games from back in the day, now they have dual and touch screen and can play multiple games, woo000000

So.......perhaps a new power glove, god forbid, that uses Wiimote tech/senses gyro whateva things….who knows, maybe they shouldn’t bring an R rating system into the fold, the fun you could have in the future, no wait, bring it on!
