Red Steel 2 to use Wii Motion Plus

Wii News | Flying blades of steel to get that extra precision.
Red Steel was perhaps the most eagerly awaited non-Nintendo launch title for the Wii back in 2006, but since its release it has generally been regarded as a little bit of a letdown. Mostly, this was due to widely-agreed upon poor control — in particular, the limited sword fighting (as we noted in our review). Many hoped that a sequel would address the control problems.

If you fall under this category, we've got some good news for you. Alain Corre, executive director with Ubisoft, has revealed in an interview with gamesindustry.biz that Red Steel 2 has been in development for "many months now", and will use the new Wii Motion Plus. The peripheral, announced at E3, is said to provide true one-to-one control, something that Corre hopes will "change the [Red Steel] experience." Red Steel 2 does not yet have a release date, though is expected to arrive late this year.

1:1 = new sales record.

That says it all really - if it works properly.

So Wii Sports Resort with the included MotionPlus adapters isn't coming out until next year, but games supporting the adapters will be out before then?

Or the adapters will be sold separately before then? Has there been any announcement of a date for this?

I remember seeing the first Red Steel trailer, how it looked 1:1, and that's why I was hyped for it. I hope it has swords in multiplayer, and it is perfect 1:1, with blocking and everything.

I hope it's 1:1 maybe be able to poke at the body with the sword perhaps, but i'm going to look forward to the homebrew community to make the games i think 1:1 would be good with >.> <.<

wait a minute - metroid prime controlled perfectly for an FPS without the motion plus -
why can't UBI just clone the Metroid controls -
Do we really need to "invest" in a motion plus add on -

It will be for the swords obviously.

I think from a perspective to further interaction in it's software, the answer is invariably "yes" shiraj. 1:1 control is currently fine with the Wii's existing setup when it comes to first person shooters and games that take a similar approach to FPS such as Metroid Prime, but for other titles; it is a feature that will by and far, keep games moving forward as far as the Wii's goal of immersion goes.

Just think.. motions mirroring those that you take in sword fighting is now potentially possible with the new MotionPlus system. Tennis games could even be able to properly recognise 'racquet' top spin or a slice..

I've got to say that im drooling over the prospect of a MotoGP game that allows you to use the Wii remote as a throttle control (taking notes on this Capcom? - I hope so!).

In a nutshell - Is it worth it for Nintendo to be investing in the MotionPlus?

In my opinion: Most definately !!!

So how long have the Red Steel developers known about the Motion Plus? All the info I've been reading says that developers are pretty **** pissed at Nintendo for not being told anything about it before the E3 confrence?

It seems that way, but I wouldnt believe this is the case. Im sure that Nintendo would have given developers some heads up, if only to promote good relations. It would remain in their best interests to promote third party support. Perhaps they only told a select few?

Seeing as Nintendo themselves state that MotionPlus was introduced solely due to developer demand for deeper motion sensing, I am treating this 'developer feedback' situation with a grain of salt unless this alleged hostility is verified by someone from a development house actually coming forward and saying it themselves on record.

Yeah cause if theres one thing Nintendo are known for its supporting the third party developers right?

it was the sword fighting that ruined the first one for me, i didnt finish is cause i couldnt get out of the place that teaches you sword techniques cause it wasnt registering the motion, in fact even the shooting was a little iffy, but if motion plus fixes all this then id buy the next one, eagerly waiting on reviews and other news

That was in the past. If there's one thing that Nintendo have made perfectly clear, it's that third party needs more of their attention this gen. Although whether they provide this or not, remains to be seen. We all know that intentions are one thing..

Benza, i'm pretty sure ubisoft got special treatment when the wii was released as the key major developer that actually gave a **** about the platform, so rabbids, red steel, etc. while not perfect were about the only decent non-nintendo launch games. i think they got the controllers etc. earlier than most.

i'd expect they and a few others probably got told, while minor devs were not notified to keep it secret until they announced it before MS's E3 keynote. given how useful ubisoft were to the wii's success by just having some launch games, and the fact redsteel 2 was on the horizon and would be so sword based, they sure should have told them and they probably did.

They can say it all they want the fact is there third party support sucks.

Hard.

They have what, 4, 5 good third party games on the console?
