E3 2008: Wii Sports Resort revealed

Wii News | A 'Wii Sports 2' by any other name, etc.
Knowing exactly when it has something special on its hands, Nintendo has revealed the follow-up to Wii Sports, entitled Wii Sports Resort.

As the subtitle implies, Resort will be taking the Wii Sports formula on holiday, bringing with it at least three tropical themed 'sporting' events, including 'Sword Play' (a fencing mini-game), 'Power Cruising' (shades of Wave Race here), and 'Disc Dog' (not instilling the RSPCA's wrath, but rather playing catch with 'Mii-like' dog).

Most interesting of all, Resort will be taking advantage of the newly announced Wii MotionPlus attachment, to the point of being bundled with the game upon release - allowing for 1:1 interaction and manipulation of frisbees, jetskis, makeshift swords, and the like.

Currently locked in for a 'spring 2009' release, confirmation of a local booking to the Wii Sports Resort is yet to be confirmed.

So... good fun for about a week before putting it down and never, ever touching it again. I'm not falling for that one again Nintendo icon_naughty.gif

Oh come on, it's better than that. It'll last at least 2 weeks.

Given the rate some people buy games at, I'd be surprised if they play a game more than a week...

I'm slightly interested just in seeing how the 1:1 controls work.

^I dunno the Japanese snapped up Wii Sports over there (wasn't in the bundle) and if you get the new MotionPlus with it i might have to bite.

It'd be interesting as a proof of concept for the sword fighting, other then that I'm not interested.

Maybe I'm slowly turning into a casual gamer, but Wii Sports 2 has me very excited. Wii Sports is my most played game of the generation, by far - in fact I'd go as far to say that I've probably played more Wii Sports than I have played the majority of my other games put together. So I'll buy the sequel day one, no doubt. However what was shown almost seems more like Wii Play 2 than Wii Sports 2 - it better have proper sports (its on a beach? cricket, volleyball, etc sound good). I would also like to see Nintendo bundle 2 of the + things with it, but that'll never happen.

Yay great way to show off your 1:1 control Nintendo...
The casual (or should be the mainstream now??) audience will eat this up just like all those other gimmicks.
