E3 2008: FaceBreaker K.O. Party detailed

Wii News | Made exclusively for the Wii.
While it’s been known for a while that the Wii would be getting a version of EA Game’s upcoming boxing game FaceBreaker, until now it was assumed that it would simply be a port of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version. Today however, EA Games have announced that the Wii will be receiving FaceBreaker K.O. Party, which has been built from scratch exclusively for the system.

FaceBreaker K.O. Party is controlled using both the Wii remote and Nunchuck, and will require players to ‘string together haymakers, face shots and body blows,’ as well as avoid their opponent’s punches by dodging and parrying. The game will also feature a special Punch-O-Matic lever, which drops random power-ups in the ring and will even give boxers different handicaps and strengths. Additionally, when opponents are beaten down you’ll be able to deform their face as a victory move. Finally, the game will have a total of 12 playable characters, and will feature two main tournament modes including Brawl for it All which pits you against all characters and rewards you with belts, and T.K.O. which lets you fight in team battles.

FaceBreaker K.O. Party is currently scheduled to be released later this year, we’ll have more information as it becomes available. Until then, you can check out some screens in the media panel.

The angle this game takes reminds me a little of the excellent Let's Get Ready To Rumble Boxing series on the Dreamcast.

It has potential, but then again; this is an EA title, so id have to say it's Guilty until proven Innocent.
