Nintendo unveils upcoming games

Wii News | Four new Wii and DS titles, with added Wario and Kirby.
For some time now, commentators have remarked on the relatively bare second half of 2008 for Nintendo. Already this year, we've had Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and now Super Smash Bros. Brawl. What next?

Well, Nintendo have chosen this pre-E3 lull to let us know about a few titles shipping before the end of the year. They've unveiled four titles - two for Wii, and two for DS. The first - Mario Super Sluggers - we've known about for some time, so that's not so surprising. The second Wii title, however, is more of a revelation. Wario Land: Shake It! will see the popular Nintendo antagonist make his way to his first Wii adventure (after 2007's micro-game collection, WarioWare: Smooth Moves). The game marks a return to Nintendo's roots, merged with the modern motion controlling of the Wii: it's a 2D, traditional, side-scrolling platformer, but instead of the button set up of yesteryear, players will shake and move the Wii Remote in order to control Wario.

The Nintendo DS will also soon be home to two new games. First, it's Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir, a puzzle title in the long-running series of seek-and-solve games. In the DS installment, players will use the stylus controls and the built-in microphone to solve the mystery, while the game will also feature the series' first ever multiplayer mode. Additionally, the DS will receive a 're-imagining' of the fan favourite Kirby Super Star, titled Kirby Super Star Ultra. The game will feature improved graphics and functionality, plus, of course, touch-screen controlled mini games.

In the United States, Wario Land: Shake It! will be released on 29 September, Mario Super Sluggers August 25, Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir September 8, and Kirby Super Star Ultra September 29. There aren't any concrete Australian dates yet, however, it's worth noting that Wario, at least, will hit Europe on 26 September, which is a decent indicator of an Australian release.

Heh, indeed. I phrased that incorrectly - it's fixed now! Cheers!

No announcement about Kid Icarus? I'm pretty disappointed with this, I thought Nintendo would have a few more aces up their sleeves.

Wario should be good though at least, but I knew about that last month. Is this really all Nintendo are showing at E3 or is this just a little sample?

i think it's just a sample. they said they're holding most for E3 and those wii titles are just the ones that have allready been accidentally leaked. Especially as Kid Icarus is on palgns upcoming releases list last time i checked.

Your house needs a clean.

The E3 conferences are in 3 weeks. I hear Nintendo is having theirs at Kodak Theatre again (from E306). Should be good! icon_smile.gif

This obviously isn't their entire release schedule for the rest of the year. Use some common sense, people.

Wario Land looks fantastic.

Mmm...Im getting sick of Nintendo, they really need to start thinking up of some new IPs to generate interest. Encourage some decent 3rd party developers to hop on aswell.

Kirby is for the DS according to the article, but regardless I think Nintendo might announce a Kirby game for the Wii at E3 this year too.

In 2006, Nintendo announced a full-scale 3D Kirby game called "Kirby Adventure" for gamecube. Strangley, the game was cancelled shortly after the announcement despite the game having been close to completion. There are rumours circulating the internet that claim this Kirby game is now intended to be released for the Wii.

Here is a video of it - it looks similar to Smash Bros. Melee, so they probably used the same engine. Nintendo will most likely polish up the graphics a bit and add waggle of course.

As I said, this is just a rumour, so don't shoot me if I am quoting something that is false. I'll try and find some sources of where I heard this - it was a few months ago and I can't remember icon_sad.gif

EDIT: Looks like I'm late to the party. There is a wikipedia page for the game and despite it not having been officially unveiled by Nintendo, it seems fairly likely that it will be soon.

Don't worry Macka, Kirby Wii is coming. It was listed in Nintendo's financials last month.

Am I the only one looking for Wario to NOT be motion controlled?! Give me a traditional platformer with traditional controls.

Dammit.

it depends on whether the motion controls are intuitive (more likely than not, its not). I also like to just curl up on my couch and do some serious damage in some gaming without having to wave my arms around.

Dude, I thought you'd be instantly deflated if that's the case: It's called "Wario Land: Shake It."
