EA are promoting SimCity Creator as the "most accessible and light-hearted game" in the franchise yet, and a high level of Wii functionality is suggested. Only a sampling of SimCity Creator was revealed by EA, though there were some interesting tidbits. The Wii version will have a completely new user interface, "designed specifically for the Wii and the Wii remote." Thirteen variations on city styles will also be available to the player, with American, European and Asian themes so far being announced. 'Hero' buildings were also revealed, which will make your city "distinctive and momentous", according to EA, though the actual gameplay elements at this stage remain anyone's guess.
It also seems that the natural - and not-so-natural - disasters that many players loved from previous SimCity iterations have returned. In their press release, EA emphasised that players would be able to use the Wii remote to create earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, and call in destructive robots and monsters. Improved control over the in-city transportation system has also been touted, while the game is set to feature a city advisor system, potentially reminiscent of the Civilization series.
Speaking of Civilization, SimCity Creator for the Nintendo DS sees players evolve and protect their city over a long time frame, from ancient times into the future. Rod Humble, Head of Studio for The Sims label stated, "We will give you the ability to make a city develop through time and to overcome the different challenges each era of urban development presents."
Both versions of the game are presently set to be available in the Europe and Asia-Pacific regions on September 19, 2008. The first media of both versions of the game is available in our media panel.
