Resident Evil Zero heading to Wii

Wii News | Because sometimes, backwards compatibility just isn't enough. [UPDATE]
Following on the heels of its overall profits with Resident Evil titles on Nintendo's newest platform, Capcom has announced plans to port the GameCube-exclusive Resident Evil Zero to Wii, the latest Famitsu reveals.

Those hoping for a remake of sorts will be disappointed though. Scans attained by fansite Resident Evil Horror reveal that the port will be little more than that, with the only noticeable gameplay extra being the addition of Wii Remote functionality to the controls -- to the point where the whole game can controlled with just the Remote.

As the last of the 'traditionally designed' instalments in the Resident Evil series' main canon, 2002's Resident Evil Zero was a quality title, as far as 'old-school' RE games go. However, with the Wii's ever-present backwards compatibility, those who already own a GameCube copy of the game may understandably be hard pressed to care for a near bare bones Wii port.

UPDATE: According to an official post over at Capcom's US forums, the Wii port of Resident Evil Zero is destined for Japan, with "no plans for a Western release for the title at this time". See folks? Even Capcom, the house of revisions and ports, has limits and standards.

I have RE1 and RE0 on the Cube, imo they are the most beautiful games created. If they make the port Wide screen, i would definetly pick this up, as the GC version looks blurry and bland on a wide screen TV.

Wow, what a waste of time this is. Hey pull your heads out of your arses and actually release a proper NEW Resident Evil for the Wii. Seriously, is that so hard to do?

1) RE0 wasn't really that great, the second disk was pure boredom.
2) RE4 style is more accessible and fun! So an original game with RE4 engine, please.
3) Using only the Wiimote. Turning Resident Evil into a point and click adventure? Whaaaaa.

Wow! So now I can play Resident Evil Zero on my Wii THREE ways!

1. Resident Evil Zero, Gamecube Version!
2. Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Lightgun Version!
3. Resident Evil Zero, Wii Version!

I applaud Capcom for allowing me the chance to play one of the most groundbreaking game narratives again and again, from different perspectives! Stay tuned for Resident Evil Zero: Leech Edition, where you get to play as one of those black leeches from the game - only this time, you're feeding off the Resident Evil brandname and its shameless and pointless remakes!

Why, why couldn't they remake Resident Evil 2?

I suppose it would actually require some effort if they were to do so.

^I'd like to see all the Resident Evil games from 1 to 3 be remade to be of the same control system and view-point of Resident Evil 4.

I don't have the GC version, though I've been hunting my EB's 2nd-hand bin for it for ages now. I'll happily pick the Wii version, since I have a slight moral aversion to purchasing 2nd hand games from EB (roughly 90% profit for the buggers) icon_smile.gif

I can't understand how ports or remakes can constitute a new game and we keep buying into it..

Resident Evil Zero was a pretty good Cube game.. Note: CUBE game.

Cmon capcom, between Street Fighter 84th remake of alpha super version, Resident Evil Remake Ultra Wii version and Devil May Cry rapidly approaching the same number of sequels as Rocky, you gotta be wondering, do you have anything left?

Yea this is typical Capcom cashing in on the Resident Evil name, it sucks but they've done it a few times before (gamecube got crappy ports of 2, 3 and code veronica). I really don't see how the wiimote would improve the oldskool gameplay (RE4 I can understand).

Anyways as long as they don't include an new stuff I can skip it alltogether which is what I plan to do.
