Virtual Console updated

Wii News | Has your Phantasy been fulfilled?
It’s Friday again and as usual, Nintendo have updated the Australian Virtual Console. This week’s update sees the release of two Mega Drive titles, Phantasy Star 2 and Eternal Champions. Both games will set you back 800 points.

Originally released in 1990, Phantasy Star 2 has since been included in a number of different compilations, including The Phantasy Star Collection on the Game Boy Advanced and Sega Saturn, and the Sega Mega Drive Collection for the PlayStation 2 and PSP. In the game, players are introduced to world of Mota, which is regulated by a super computer known as Mother Brain. One day however, Mother Brain malfunctions and begins to cause chaos for the people of Mota. Players assume the role of Rolf, and attempt to find out what’s causing the malfunction and put a stop to Mother Brain.

The second title, Eternal Champions, is a fighting game which was originally released in 1993. In the game, nine of world’s greatest fighters have met untimely and unjust deaths, and now they fight each other in the afterlife. The ultimate victor is given the chance to battle the Eternal Champion, in hopes of reclaiming their soul and being sent back to Earth to avenge his/her death.

I know Eternal Champions was released in the US in December, perhapes you're confusing it with that?

I'm unsure about Phantasy Star though.

Ah, so it's not on VC yet? Don't you have a NES? I got a mint cart for 99p from UK ebay.

It's not - it's a square/enix game.

Great news for Phantasy Star 2, I can't believe we got it so soon! I believe it was released in Japan recently (or it got an ESRB rating at least). The US won't be happy at all about this.

so there will never be a square game on the VC?

I picked up Rivercity Ransom EX for the GBA brand new off eBay. I love it to pieces!

They have put out a few games to test the water, such as Actraiser, but they won't release any of their popular games. You will never see any Final Fantasy game, Secret of mana or Chrono Trigger on the VC. That much can be assured. They don't even want to release some of their mediocre rpg's either. The thing is they can release these games on the DS or PSP and make a truckload more money.

So does Phantsy Star play like a Final Fantasy ?

Hooray for a week with more than one release and Hooray for Eternal Champions even though I already own it. Phantasy 2 is a bit old school (with some eargraining sounds) plays more like DQ. IV is the best in the series.

Also Shadow Wave, unfortunately in Australia it is not legal to have Roms at all even if you own the original copy. Backups of any kind are considered pirated material in Australia (unlike the US). That being said that is just what it says on paper. I'm sure if you showed proof that you owned it they'd let you off the hook.

really? under the copyright act, you are allowed to have a backup of your game, as long as you are the sole user.

at least im fairly certain... I had to study it last year lol..

so what? this isn't covered by ROM's etc?

I'm actually starting to get really fustrating with these lackluster releases.

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but can we please stop the discussion of ROMs. It's a form of piracy (I am aware you're talking about backup purposes, but it still counts), which is against the rules.

so you also think its highly unlikely that Square will put their FF games on the PSN?
