EA responds to Medal of Honor Heroes 2 issue

Wii News | Refunds will be offered.
Last week, we reported that the Australian version of Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 shipped without the much touted, online mode. EA seemed a little surprised by the omission and promised to get back to us with a comment.

Well, they did, with the following comment made by an EA spokesperson "Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for Wii does not support online functionality in Australia. We made an error in the documentation and marketing materials. We are very sorry to have caused confusion for our customers. We will provide a refund to anyone in Australia who wishes to return the game to EA because of the lack of online functionality."

I suggest everyone who bought it finnishes the single player then throws back in the face of EA for a refund so the jerks at EA get the message that forcing you to pay more for only a portion of a product that you had to wait longer for is NOT COOL!
(I mean forcing in relation to region checks not forcing as in holding a gun to someones head)

So we wait 5 days for them to turn around and say, yes it was taken out. Well, DUH, We know it was taken out, why doesn't EA come forward and let us know WHY it was taken out.

It seems that EA would have had to make a special copy of this game JUST for Australia which inevitably would cost them more (lower qty means higher production costs) than just importing us over copies from Europe.

I hear that they don't want to set up a dedicated server for Australia, but still, I hear stories of people using UK versions and running without lag at all..

Poor show EA.. Poor show indeed..

so basically a translation of what their saying is this "We think Australian's are dumb and they wouldn't notice"

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, especially with delays, there was no reason for this

i don't see how they can get away with charging $99.95 for such a product, if their going to cut half the product then cut half the cost of buying it; simple as that

Grrrrr they havent even stated a reason to why they axed it !

I can sum up what should be done in one word: Boycot

The 32 multiplayer online was the only interest I had in this game. The only redeeming feature of yet another WWII game to throw on the rest of the pile.

What a crock!

I had a feeling they were going to turn around and hit us with this. You'd think they'd be smart about it, put in a little effort to give us online, and in return the game will actually sell. What do they expect? It's as if they want something for nothing.

So once again we get the short straw. We should all complain en masse.

Exactly, if they are going to knowingly give us an inferior product, they could at least reduce the price.

I completely agree, i just wanted it for 32 online multiplayer, now it is another of the many WWII games, seriously as if they still make these crappy WWII games, at least Call Of Duty has moved on to Modern Warfare.

Yes Call of Duty 4 embraced non-WWII and it was brilliant, 2nd best shooter of 07 IMO... but according to the rumor mill, don't get too comfortable

didn't the same happen with Crysis, where the limited edition ones didn't have their own 'limited edition numbering' so EA would let you pick up any other one of their game for free because of it?

i don't think thats really related on one hand you have a whole feature being removed and the cost still the same yet they can't even give a proper reason why (or atleast admit it); yet the other is just a simple convenience such as numbering (unless there was more to this than i can tell)

Even worse is the news that Treyarch will be developing it while IW focus on COD6.

This is yet another reason for me to continue to game Wii-less. Until some serious multiplayer games (SSB excluded) show up I see no reason to own one when I can just go round to a mates place and play through the single player (SMG/Metroid/No More Heroes).

Anyone that bought a Wii to play FPS over the net is an idiot and should have their brain refunded.

Good day sir's.

The most logical explanation is that they didn't want to bother to set up an Australian server for the few hundred Australians that might actually play a Wii game online. And I do mean hundred, not thousands.

So you think why can't they just connect to the EUR or US servers, but if anybody has ever used the Wii's Internet they should be aware that is much slower than it should be in general and connecting to another country would only cause needless lag and be unusable anyway.

Yes they should have bothered to set up an Australian server. No they didn't bother. But it is justifiable when you consider how few people here would have used it, from a business stand point.

As it pans out, I would not be half surprised to see some alterations to Brawl's online modes for Australia.

actually thats proven not true, people who have imported this game report that they get no lag whatsoever (or if there is any, its unnoticeable) ; so its just a slap in the face when the truth comes out

No, as evil_kenshin said, the lag cannot be an issue. I have the game on PSP (virtually identical), US version, I can play online with international players fine.

EA do not setup dedicated servers for their other games anyway I think - doesn't it just use the generic EA Nations server login then have userhosted games?.. anyhow, EA have shown in the past they know nothing about the Australian region (no 5 on 5 FIFA 08 mode because apparently we couldn't handle the bandwidth, even though there's never been a problem with games like Battlefield 2 and 64 players on a server).

Blah blah, rant rant, end of the day it's EA, the game is rubbish, and you can't start whinging about a precedent being set when EA are merely following Nintendo's example. I think I'll be getting a Wii once there's a region free modchip available that actually works 100% of the time.

Okay I stand corrected. This is beyond absurd then. And to think they won't even bother to make a statement saying why they did it...

If they followed Nintendo's example the game would not be out yet, but it would be released with online intact. Nintendo wouldn't screw Australia over like that, only via PAL delays.
