In Band Mashups, players assume the role of a band and battle other music groups in hopes of stopping the evil Mr. Hong and taking control of the city of New Cadenza. Although THQ didn’t specifically mention how battles would be fought, players will apparently need to utilise 70 unique musical weapons including the sniper violin and flamethrower guitar.
Band Mashups will also make use of a ‘music switching’ function, which essentially lets the winning player have control over the style of music that plays during battle. In total, there will be 30 tracks that will consist of both classic and modern ‘chart-topping hits’. Each track has been recorded in five different styles including rock, funk/hip-hop, country, Latin and marching band; bringing the total number of playable recordings to 150.
Additionally, there will be two different gameplay modes. These include a single-player campaign mode which lets you choose from 11 different bands, and a two-player verses mode.
"Band Mashups takes an innovative approach to the rhythm/action genre by blending music and combat in the ultimate battle of the bands,” said Randy Shoemaker, spokesman for THQ. “Using a rhythm based game-play mechanic, the game delivers 70 over-the-top musical weapons and utilizes the Wii Remote’s functionality to deliver a completely original musical combat experience. Fighting with a sniper violin or flamethrower guitar is something gamers should definitely look forward to.”
Band Mashups is expected to be released in April this year. The first screens can be found in the media panel.
