Rock Band coming to the Wii

Wii News | PAL versions not coming until after April 1st.
John Riccitiello has confirmed in a recent conference call that Rock Band will be coming to the Wii. He also revealed that all versions of the game (PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360) will not be released until after the 1st of April.

"One of the things I'm very proud of is the partnership between Electronic Arts and MTV," he said. "What's probably the most interesting piece right now is the coming launch on the Wii, the continued sale of the core platforms in North America and then the fiscal '09 launch across Europe against all of the SKU."

So, to fill in the time, why not speculate in our forums whether EA will convince Nintendo to release a external hard drive or whether we'll see disk based song packs.

It's a true shame we have to wait for so long for the Australian release.

Not that im complaining, but I think the Wii version of RockBand will simply be the PS2 port which means absolutely zilch when it comes to song packs. I think, essentially; it is the lack of the storage ability of the Wii that is preventing any downloadable content for third party titles from being released right now. Quite frankly, I also think Nintendo themselves may be opposed to the matter and not want to give a percentage of microtransaction funds to outside companies for the time being. They simply dont seem as flexible as Microsoft or Sony in that regard and in my opinion, appear to keep things a little more 'in house'. Or im imagining that they are holding back until a system is in place. That system looks to be WiiWare.

Hence it is my conclusion that if this space / downloadable game content issue does get addressed, it will be announced on or before the launch of WiiWare in March. I am sure Nintendo will not sit idly by and be content with the whole "cleaning out the fridge" scenario so coolly handed to us by Nintendo PR staff a few months ago, after they came under fire for this very issue. Quite frankly; I see that explanation as bullsh*t if you look at the sort of growth the industry is experiencing. To not acknowlege this aspect would be a sheer act of foolishness on Nintendo's part, considering it is common practice amongst their direct competition for our dollars.

I for one; hope that they give us a storage alternative as I dont believe that any Wii owner out there is content with moving data on and off an SD card. If Nintendo dont do it soon, im sure a third part hardware developer will.

At the end of the day I think we all want to see a Nintendo as opposed to a Nintendon't.

I agree whole-heartedly with you, except that I think it's also unreasonable to be transferring stuff on and off the SD card all the time. Whatever hardware is in there is slow as all hell. I swear it took 10 minutes to transfer Paper Mario from internal memory to the SD card.

If they're putting up full games to be downloaded, then surely logic says that they'll be unveiling something in the future.

I would have thought the news in the subject line would have indicated the best section to put the news in.

Anyhow, it doesn't matter, as it's been moved to the Wii section now.

When there was no word of a Wii version, I just thought missed opportunity.

I remember Michael Patcher talking about 3rd party sales on the Wii being relatively low, and then Guitar Hero 3 on the system sold incredibly well which really confirms the already obvious about who more than anyone are buying the little white box.

Good to see they are wising up to the fact. Despite it wont have much in way of song packs (I filled up my internal memory within months) but that wont stop the casuals picking it up for that system as most of them don't have PS3's or 360's
