Gamers will use the Wii remote to control whoever has possession of the ball using a 'point and drag' system, with skill moves and the like being activated using hand gestures. The remote will also be used to select who will receive passes and 'make runs on to attacking through-balls', whatever that means. The remote can also be shaken to perform sliding tackles and to command the goalkeeper to remove balls from the penalty area. The D-pad will allow you to switch your tactical approach mid-game.
No mention is made of the Nunchuk.
PES 2008 will feature six modes of play, including match, league, cup, training and trade/transfer. Exclusive to the Wii is the Champions Road competition mode, 'which will see players given the opportunity to compete as their favourite team in various league tournaments around the footballing world'. This mode allows users to poach players from the teams they have defeated for use in their own team. Miis will be supported - including the option to have a full, 16-strong team of Miis - and mini-games will be included too. Wi-Fi and WiiConnect24 support will facilitate online play.
PES 2008 is set for a PAL release in March.
