Close to 300,000 Nintendo Wii consoles sold in Australia

Wii News | As DS steamrolls to almost a million.
Nintendo Australia has revealed a few of the latest sales figures for the Nintendo DS and the Wii. According to Ausgamers, the Nintendo DS has sold 988,168 units and the Wii has sold 293,990 units since the platforms debuted. It was announced a couple of weeks ago that Microsoft had sold 300,000 Xbox 360 consoles in Australia and New Zealand combined, but individual figures for each country were not revealed.

Nintendo has also said Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have sold 167,319 units combined, Brain Training has sold 78, 279 copies and More Brain Training is catching up to its predecessor quickly with 67,095 copies sold.

Software sales for the Wii are also impressive, with controller/game combo Wii Play selling 114,600, Super Mario Galaxy selling 54,079 and Mario Party 8 selling 52,530 units.

That's rather impressive since it's only been out for a year. I'm glad to see Galaxy sold well here in Australia. It would seem the general public does have taste.

Mario Party came out four months earlier though, this is only a month or so of Galaxy sales. It's actually pretty crazy for any game not called Halo to have such a good attach rate after only a month.

Surprised Wii Play hasn't sold 293,990 though, while it shouldn't really be counted as a game it's a no brainier purchase for new owners. Most likely a lack of stock, and that Big Brain bundle possible cut into it as well.

Big Brain Academy Wii Degree with the Wii Remote was only released in limited quantities. I got a gut feeling that the bundle has been discontinued.
