DS dominates UK

DS News | First time ever!
The UK based website MCV reports that research group Chart-Track has announced that the Nintendo DS has outstripped every other next-gen and "older" platform, including both the PC and PlayStation 2 powerhouses, in weekly unit sales and market value. On a weekly basis, this makes the DS the market leader for the first time ever in the UK.

Chart Track also reports that six of the UK top ten title this week were Nintendo exclusive games, including Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, More Brain Training, and Brain Training. In total, these six titles alone accounted for 15.2% of total unit sales for the UK market last week, a very definitely non-trivial amount and strong indication of Nintendo's current success as a home and mobile platform manufacturer. Older successful titles including New Super Mario Bros. and Cooking Mama have helped push the Nintendo DS to be the weekly market leader overall.

The PlayStation 3 "starter pack" has apparently worked a little bit of magic too, registering the highest week of sales since launch in March. Maybe Sony was right when PALGN reported previously that they said they don't need to discount quite yet in Europe.

All you base are belong to Nintendo. icon_wink.gif Seriously nice sales figures though, is there anything the DS can't do? I think it's set to be the most popular handheld ever at this rate! What dual screens and a touch screen can do..wow.

Pokemon and super popular games like it are obviously a contributing factor, but it's all part of the package really.

What were the other two games, out of curiosity?

You mentioned Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Brain Training and More Brain Training, just wondering what the other two were.

I was going to say read the Chart Track website that was linked to, but it really looks a garbled mess in terms of sentence structure.

lordofthesheep: Yeh, it's a bit difficult to understand how they are tracking PC hardware, maybe it is meant partly with software sales on PC...
