Pokémon Diamond/Pearl sells 10 million

DS News | That's a lot of Pokémon trainers.
Nintendo have revealed that Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl have sold a combined total of over 10 million units worldwide. Currently, 5.2 million of those units are in the hands of gamers in Japan while most of the remaining units have been snapped up in the US or various import retailers from around the globe.

Keeping in mind both versions were only released in Europe a few days ago, the total figure will likely increase dramatically over the next few months – especially when the jolly season of Christmas approaches.

WOW - That's unbelievable!!

And its not going to stop for a while.

Has anyone got figures for other top games? The Sims? Halo? GTA?

Just goes to show that the Pokemon franchise shows no sign of slowing, and continues to show you that Nintendo really hit the jackpot when they decided to start publishing the games. Even the spin-offs such as Mystery Dungeon have done rather well. It really is the largest franchise/series on any handheld device, easily rivaling console games which is quite a feat!

No doubts about us seeing Pokemon Platinum and some other version in the future, most likely on the DS again.

isn't Gamefreak a 2nd party developer for Nintendo? IE they were always going to publish Pokemon?

If I'm correct this will probably lead to the 5th-Generation. Blue & Red were released on GameBoy, Gold & Silver were released on GameBoy Color, Ruby & Sapphire were released on GameBoy Advance, and Diamond & Pearl were released on DS. Every generation of Pokemon have been released on seperate Nintendo systems which means the 5th will be on either the next DS or a completely different Nintendo handheld...

Hmm, good point, I wasn't sure if they were 2nd or 3rd party. OK, just checked wikipedia you're right. OK, I should change my above comment to "They hit the jackpot when they decided to allow Gamefreak to publish a game on the Gameboy".

Definitely a large amount of games, and seem the DS is getting close to having a few 5 - 10 million world wide sellers.

Wikipedia claims:

Halo 1 + Halo 2 sold 13 million
GTA Vice City + GTA San Andreas sold 25 mill.
The Sims + The Sims 2 sold 29 mill (NOT including expansions).

Pokemon series: 155+ Million
Sims: 85+ Million (Not sure if this includes expansions)
GTA series: 55+ Million
Halo: 15 Million approx.

If that helps.
