In the game, players will take control of Roget, a soldier of Pedda who is on a reconnaissance mission to Ferolia with several companions. However, their aircraft becomes the target of enemy fire and is shot down. They soon realise their mission was nothing more than a decisive plot by their own superiors to kill them and as such, make way for Pedda's plans for world conquest. As the Roget and his team witness the Pedda's scheme unfold, they are forced to take action and stop their own countrymen.
According to the press release, players will be able to "lead armies, build bases and vanquish their foes entirely through the use of the Nintendo DS stylus" as well as command many staple monsters and heroes from the Mana universe. The game will also utilise a blend of 2D and 3D environments which will stay true to previous Mana installments while Yoko Shimomura (from Kingdom Hearts fame) will be composing the soundtrack.
"We’re very excited to be bringing Heroes of Mana to PAL territories," says John Yamamoto, President and CEO of Square Enix Ltd. "The Mana series has long been adored by fans around the world. Hereos of Mana offers a fantastically fresh new approach, with the addition of real-time strategy that makes battles even more thrilling than before."
Heroes of Mana DS is currently scheduled for a release sometime between September-November this year. In the meantime, first screens can be found in the media panel.
