Gamecock announce Dementium: The Ward

DS News | A new survival-horror FPS title for the Nintendo DS.
Gamecock Media Group has sent word via a press release that they will be publishing Dementium: The Ward for the Nintendo DS. Developed by Renegade Kid, Dementium: The Ward is a survival horror FPS which will apparently "set the bar for mature handheld games."

In the game, players take on the role of an unnamed man who awakens to find himself inside a mysterious - and seemingly abandoned - hospital which is frozen in time. In typical fashion however, he soon discovers hoards of monstrous surgical experiments occupying the halls as well as an array of "challenging" puzzles and a "cast of peculiar characters." In order to escape, he must face his darkest fears and uncover the secrets of the hospital itself.

“Renegade Kid is looking to move above and beyond what most games are attempting on the DS, and with Gamecock we’ve found a publisher who is supportive, developer friendly, and willing to give us the freedom to create the game we want,” said Jools Watsham, Owner and Creative Director of Renegade Kid. “Dementium showcases what a powerful piece of hardware the DS is, while drawing in a mature crowd that’s looking for a title they can really sink their teeth into.”

“From the first meeting, Renegade Kid have proven themselves to be innovative, unafraid to push the ‘norms’ of gaming and incredibly talented – all of which we think are the key characteristics of a great developer,” said Harry Miller, Head of Development of Gamecock Media Group. “It’s great when you can sit down with a developer who shares the same vision of where games should be going in creating new and exciting titles to offer an alternative to the bland remakes and sequels flooding stores today.”

No official release date has been confirmed however, Gamecock have promised that the game will include "gory visuals and bone-chilling audio that [will] bring the world screaming to life." The first three screenshots can be found in the Media Panel below.

hmmm i'm curious to see how this game goes, it would be good to play in your bed with the lights off, but will the crappy graphics make it not that scary?

Gamecock: the company that plays havoc with bulletin board censoring software.

this is like in WoW: Burning Crusade, the mounts the Bloodelves use was initially called a ****, but was changed after it's announcement to Hawkstrider.

i'm sure the fact that both Blizzard's ingame, and forum censor kept reporting on the exciting new ****atrice mount.

I can already here the 'lets hope they don't move into peripherals' jokes...

on a serious note, with a nice layer of polish, if the fear factor is there then this could be a big plus for the DS

oh dear... and I just realised that if the game does well they could move into Wii titles...
Gamecock on your Wii ... just when people had gotten tired of the name aswell ...

Announce? This is old news. Except it has 'Dementium' as it's name now and 'The Ward' as a subtitle.

Well, it's easy to recognise, and obviously it's going to be embedded into your head too. icon_razz.gif

Looks promising, I'll be keeping an eye out for more media for sure. Its awesome to see a 'little fish' stepping up to the plate and making what looks to be a fully-fledged survival/horro game for the DS. Very out of left field, that.
