New DK: Jungle Climber images revealed

DS News | It would appear it's time for a banana smoothie.
Nintendo’s official UK magazine have released new images of Donkey Kong’s next outing on the DS, DK: Jungle Climber, a sequel of sorts to DK: King of Swing for the Game Boy Advanced.

As well as new screens, a few snippets of information were revealed including that the game’s story will revolve around the big ape trying to obtain a crystal banana to appease strange Banana Alien creatures. Controls will also work similarly to DK: King of Swing in that pressing the L and R buttons will allow Donkey Kong to use his hands to climb while holding both simultaneously will allow Donkey Kong to perform a jump or attack. Donkey Kong will also be able to partner up with Diddy Kong occasionally to gain new abilities such as flying when the pair collect a set of wings.

Multiplayer support for up to four people has also been confirmed and will be incorporated into an arrangement of mini-games which will see players attempt to catch falling bananas, among other activities. For the meantime, the game has no official release date although we wouldn’t be too surprised if it were sometime in Q4 2007. Until then, screens can be found in the Media Panel below.

Graphically, The Ds can do better than that. And I want a real DK platformer.

It's odd that they'd choose to keep that same, ugly, pre-rendered look from the DKC games for this. Nostalgia only goes so far, and these days games expect a little more visual flair from their games.

As long as it plays anything like the GBA one, I'm sold. That game was damn good fun.

DKC serries have much better visuals than this.

JPEG artifacting aside, I think they look pretty similar - although it has been years since I've seen DKC in action.

Eitherway I was talking generally about the art direction. Whether or not the sprites/rendered backgrounds are better or worse, they're still in the same style as the DKC games. Which I find somewhat confusing, because that kind of pre-rendered look is so ugly (at least to me).

DKC3 on SNES looked amazing. The quality of the sprites in this game seems to be far lower.
