Half a million pre-orders for Pokémon

DS News | In the US that is.
According to an article on Reuters, Nintendo is expecting Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS to become one of the best-selling video games of 2007, after pre-order numbers reached 533,000 units.

The figure more than doubles the amount of pre-orders taken for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, which were released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, and have since reached over 3.4 million units sold in North America alone.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are set for a April 22nd release in the US, with a PAL release date still set as TBA. We'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Not surprising. Neither is how much Pokemon still lives on. I mean, they have only changed the traditional games so much, but they are still great. I even want to get the Diamond and Pearl, and I havn't played much Pokemon in years.

Over half a million pre-orders? That's just massive. Hmm, it just still shows how pokemon is still really popular in the gaming community

Can't wait for this to hit the shores in Australia, hopefully we get some sort of special stylus like the americans icon_biggrin.gif

wonder how much of that is due to children screaming at parents for them and actual gamers who want the game oO?

What's the difference icon_razz.gif ?

But yeah, Pokemon is going to dominate. The combined sales in Japan make it the #1 DS title so far. (Feel free to jump in if I'm mistaken, I'm too lazy to see if anything has surpassed it).

Is it going to sit atop the Australian gaming charts forever like Emerald did? Only time will tell...

...most likely, yes.

Like I said in the Release dates forum, EB have it scheduled for June 21st, weather you take it with a grain of salt or not? personally I dont know weather to believe it or not.

Pokemon is still one of Nintendo's most profitable franchises and Pikachu is as a familiar face in pop culture as Mario is. These games are going to sell BIG. Combined with Battle Revolution (online play anyone?), this will no doubt help Nintendo sell even more DS's and Wii's

I haven't played Pokemon since Blue and I'm totally pumped for this.

But yeah, wouldn't surpise me if these games ended up selling 13-14 million copies worldwide.

Doesn't seem that massive with me? I thought Pokemon was up there with WOW. WOW sold 2.7 million in one day didnt they?

Diamond and Pearl have online play.

I either want a local release date (June 21st sounds about right to me, though I would rather it sooner) or news on whether my Sapphire and Leaf Green Pokes can be transfered to a US copy.

I honosty thought Pokemnn was a fad that would have died out post Silver/Gold, how glad I am that I was wrong. Online play will be awesome for these titles, as the friends codes will be a help rather than a hinderance, to a degree at least.

That's a lot of Pokemon pre-orders..

Wonder how many Australia will have?

Pokemon with online play.

*Drools*

Sadly I have almost all of these games. Even Channel.

Nintendo sure made the right move with Pokemon. Along with the DS and Wii (in limited perspective when compared to sales of the DS), Nintendo are making serious bank. I dont see them going down Sega's path anytime soon.

Indeed, Nintendo's key handheld seller has always been Pokemon while their key console seller has always been Mario (except Sunshine), and they are not even out yet

Pokemon and Mario I estimate will be printing money
