Ubisoft announces Jam Sessions for DS

DS News | A guitar game with touch screen controls.
Ubisoft has announced that it will be publishing a new guitar title developed by Plato for the Nintendo DS called Jam Sessions.

According to the press release, players will be able to "rock out" or "smoothly strum" using the stylus on the touch screen, which will produce digitally remastered sound taken from a real acoustic guitar. There'll be three main modes, including Performance Mode, Free-Play Mode and Tutorial Mode, where "novice musicians will learn to play guitar without paying for lessons."

Players will also have the ability to record their own original music and save it for future use, whether to show off their skills to friends, or perfect it and dream that it will one day sit on the shelf at the local music store.

"Jam Sessions is an amazing title with limitless potential to entertain and engage a wide audience of people who love music, guitar and singing," stated John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director. "Basically, it’s a guitar in your pocket but that’s just the beginning. It’s a chance for people who have never thought of themselves as ‘musically inclined’ to jump right in and play through entire songs, compose their own music and sing along with friends."

Strangely, Ubisoft also noted that you can hook your DS to external speakers via the headphone jack when you're at social gatherings among friends and family. Having done this ourselves several weeks ago, we can tell you it might be best to stick to your old headphones - at least for the time being, anyway.

Jam Sessions will be available later this year. First screens of the title can be viewed in the Media Panel.

So if you strum on the touch screen, what happens with the frets?

Looks like a novel concept. The ability to make your own tunes is a great touch - pardon the pun. I guess its file under the old 'Wait n See' huh?

That's good, I just hope it's a cheap price ($40), mainly becasue it's not really a full game.
