Sonic Rush sequel on the way

DS News | Coming later this year.
SEGA today declared that top-notch DS platformer Sonic Rush would be getting a follow-up, a few short days after speculation over a new SEGA trademark caused a right old fuss on the intertubes. Now, that trademark has become reality - Sonic Rush Adventure will be arriving in Southern hemisphere regions in Spring 2007, or Autumn 2007 if you're in the Northern hemisphere.

There's a pirate theme in this one, with SEGA's press release promising "fleets of up to five ships, including a submarine, water bike and hovercraft", "pirate villages", "ghost ships", and "fierce ship-to-ship battles". There's also a new nemesis for the blue blur - a certain Captain Whisker - while it looks like Blaze has been dropped in favour of Tails.

The Media Panel has the first five shots of the game in action.

Why is it that the Advance and Rush games look and feel so much like the 8-bit games? I truly believe Sonic 1 and 2 on the master system were still better than Advance series and Rush

I do admit Rush did have potential, only there were way too many bottomless pits, we will see how this turns out

I am not usually one for direct sequals, but Sega please, just use the Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles engine with new levels and bosses etc, it was perfect, exactly how a Sonic game is meant to be

I've seen screenshots, and it looks basically the same as Rush, just Sonic looks different. It's a pass for me.

Was 'Rush' that bad?

I've never played it, but it looked kinda fun from the gameplay videos I've seen - fast-paced 2D Sonic game.
No good?

Admittedly, I do agree that the Sonic series back on the ol' MegaDrive was fantastic!

^ Rush was good, while it lasted. It was pretty short, but good.

Rush was good... but yeah there were too many drops.
'Fleet of up to five ships'... sounds like a rts.

If you own a DS and you're into Sonic then get Rush, it's that simple.
Also the music is awesome, love the battleship level "drunken children" song!

I liked Rush cause there was Going Fast(TM). If there isn't Going Fast(TM) in some form in a Sonic game, then it isn't a good Sonic game.

That also explains why I gave up on the Space level: there wasn't any Going Fast(TM) (unlike the one at the end of Sonic 3 & Knuckles <-- yes I consider it the one game).

Pirates? Captain Whisker? Here I thought Tails stating he was Ali Baba in Sonic and the Secret Abhorration was the nail in the coffin for me. The developers of Sonic seem to be doing a stellar job of alienating their older fanbase.

Sonic Pocket Adventure is the only 'A' Grade handheld Sonic title I own. Very oldschool and down to the roots Sonic. Before they were obsessed with going in all directions and making it excessively kiddy trash.

Whats next? Sonic Maths Tutor Blast? I mean come on...!

i thought Rush was brilliant.

i never really got into the old-school Sonic games until recently, but i really don't see why people disliked it so much either. from what little i've played of the MD games, it's everything a Sonic game should be.

Well, that's a piece of good news. They've been making too many new characters lately IMO, first Blaze, then Silver. The screenshots look decent, but I've never really liked Sonic as a racing game, give me the format of Sonic Adventure anyday. Still, it's a Sonic game, so it has my interest. Let's see whether they can improve over the original, maybe a bit more length this time?

Rush was fun, I should finish it one of these days...

This new title also looks promising.
