Even Nintendo took notice, and funded Inis' production of another game in the same style for the English-speaking world, which was released last year in the US as Elite Beat Agents. But while the Americanised 'semi sequel' has kept the gameplay alive, many fans of the original didn't like some of the commercial pop of the US version, and longed for more true Japanese wackiness.
Well, according to Japanese website Dengeki, Japanophiles will soon get their wish. They have published an announcement by Nintendo that an official sequel will be released sometime in 2007. To be titled Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Tamashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (which means something like Burn! Hot Rhythm Spirit Go! Fight! Cheer Squad!), it will re-unite players with Doumeki Kai and his band of black-clad do-gooders. Of course, the game will never see a local release in this form, but thanks to the DS being region-free, rabid fans of the original will no doubt be readying import pre-orders.
Curiously, Dengeki also announced that the Nintendo developed Wii titles Wii Health and Disaster: Day of Crisis will definitely be released sometime this year, but no further information is given.
Be sure to check back, and we'll keep you up to date on all these games. Just scream OUENDAAAAAAAAAAN!!!
