Official Ouendan sequel announced

DS News | No, not Elite Beat Agents. A Japanese sequel!
The original Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (translated: Go! Fight! Cheer Squad!) was a cult hit for import-savvy DS fans, combining addictive and original rhythm based gameplay with a heavy dose of brilliant Japanese wackiness. It followed the antics of a male cheer squad who helped the people of a small city with their problems, all through the magic of song and dance. Many people still consider the Inis developed game their favourite on the DS, and when reviewing the import we awarded it an excellent score of 9/10.

Even Nintendo took notice, and funded Inis' production of another game in the same style for the English-speaking world, which was released last year in the US as Elite Beat Agents. But while the Americanised 'semi sequel' has kept the gameplay alive, many fans of the original didn't like some of the commercial pop of the US version, and longed for more true Japanese wackiness.

Well, according to Japanese website Dengeki, Japanophiles will soon get their wish. They have published an announcement by Nintendo that an official sequel will be released sometime in 2007. To be titled Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Tamashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (which means something like Burn! Hot Rhythm Spirit Go! Fight! Cheer Squad!), it will re-unite players with Doumeki Kai and his band of black-clad do-gooders. Of course, the game will never see a local release in this form, but thanks to the DS being region-free, rabid fans of the original will no doubt be readying import pre-orders.

Curiously, Dengeki also announced that the Nintendo developed Wii titles Wii Health and Disaster: Day of Crisis will definitely be released sometime this year, but no further information is given.

Be sure to check back, and we'll keep you up to date on all these games. Just scream OUENDAAAAAAAAAAN!!!

Guaranteed purchase! icon_biggrin.gif
I'm hyped already.

(On a side note, I can't wait to hear the Ouendan pronounce that title. icon_lol.gif)

I think I'm more excited about the prospects of Disaster being released this year moreso than the Ouendan sequel.

Well, if Gamebrin's review of Day of Disaster is anything to go by, you either really hate Ouendan or really like bad games.

I didn't even know the game was released yet, care to give a link to said review?

Well bowled, one of the best games on the DS. I'm not really interested in Eltie Beat because of the crappy tunes. I just hope they add an english option to the sequel so we can actually read what's happening in the comic!

Woo, glad to see a sequel announced to the original game, hopefully EBA gets one as well eventually... got a lot of friends who've been entertained by both thoroughly, and I hope to be as well soon.

Am I the only one who noticed the word 'Ouendan' isn't actually in the sequel's title?

I really need to try one of these games.

This is the best news i've heard all day. EBA and Ouendan rank as 2 of the best DS titles out IMO so another in the series is very welcome icon_biggrin.gif

I'd say so, since it is.

News of the week! Ouendan would be probably my favourate DS game behind Mario Kart. I've got Elite Beat Agents arriving in a week or so as well, hopefully it's great. But I can't wait for "Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Tamashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!", or as I hope to call it, "Ouendan 2". Now maybe my most anticipated game of the year.

Also good news of Disaster, seems like an interesting concept, allthough not too much has been revieled about it yet.

YAY! I love the original. Although I'm going to have to practice with the name, took me a bit to work out how to say Osu! Takate! Ouedan!

No, you're not going crazy. I was editing the article to add in a better translation of the game's name (because my first translation was based on babelfish), and accidentally dropped the last part of the name. It was only gone for five minutes, but that must have been when you read it.

Great news! I can't wait, Elite Beat Agents was a bit of a letdown for me so hopefully this should restore it to greatness icon_biggrin.gif
