Black DS Lite confirmed for Australia

DS News | Now you can get a DS to match your PSP.
Earlier this month, we reported that a retailer had listed a black DS Lite for sale but it had not been confirmed by Nintendo themselves.

Today though, Nintendo have confirmed via a press release that it will be released on September 21st for a price of $199.95.

“We are very pleased to introduce Black to the range," stated Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo Australia. "I think the colour lends well to the overall design and offers a sharp elegance to the unit. Until now, consumers have really embraced the clean sophistication of the Polar White look - now they have an option.”

Also in the press release, the number of units sold in Australia were pointed out. "Since February 2005 the Nintendo DS, along with the new Lite version, remains the highest selling handheld console in Australia, with an Australian installed base in excess of 300,000 units."

Now all we need are the pink, navy, ice blue, and onyx colours. An image of the black DS Lite can be viewed in the Media Panel to your right.

They are the same colours, the official photos are the same as the ones used for the Black DS Lite in Europe.

Onyx is just the fancy name that Nintendo of America give to black, Nintendo of Europe calls it Jet Black instead.

er.. actually black and ONYX are two diferent finishes. Yes, ONYX is black in color, but has a different sheen and finish to it than the standard black one.

I am gonna suggest that someone at NINTENDO is a woman, and realised that the standard black is a magnet for grime (dust, fingerprints, play residue etc) and suggested a different "onyx" finish for it to help. I would never own a black ANYTHING by choise specifiacally because it is the WORST color to keep "clean".

BRING ON THE PINK VERSION!!

I quite simply will not buy a DS until I can get the pink version. Well, either the pink one or a "as yet unreleased' cooler one.. like say Safety orange.. or purple. icon_smile.gif

I think HeDanny's right, didn't the Onyx Lite have a rough texture?

According to Luke's article about the Onyx and Pink DS Lites coming to America, "Unlike the smooth DS Lite, the Onyx colour will have a rough texture. "

Thank you Nintendo.

My g/f's been holding off on trading up to a DS Lite until the pink version came out.

Why every other territory gets it except ours is a bit of a mystery.
