RUMOUR: New Zealand Story DS in the pipeline?

DS News | Tiki to return?
Great news for fans of classic, old school platforming: Eurogamer claims it's been tipped off that '80s classic New Zealand Story is to be revived for the Nintendo DS, a full eighteen years after the game first appeared in arcades. Back then, it was Taito that brought us the fabulous adventures of Tiki the Kiwi, officially our favourite video game bird ever.

They've got nothing to do with this new version however, as handheld specialists Rising Star Games - the same folks who were behind Rainbow Islands Revolution and Bubble Bobble Revolution - are allegedly in charge of this version, which we assume would be a direct port of the original, but maybe with some touchscreen loveliness thrown in. Rising Star are claiming to not know much about it right now, but haven't denied its existence either, so here's hoping.

And for those young'uns who don't know what we're gibbering about, head here.

Lol, it was called Kiwi Kraze in America? Those crazy Yanks
But seriously looks cute. Just felt I had to add something constructive there.

aw man I hope and pray this game gets released. I have actually gone into the shed to dig out my Commodore128 just to play (WizzBall,) this game and listen to some of the most awsome game music ever.

Of course unless someone releases WizBall I will still be making the occasional trip ito the shed, but hey.. New Zealand Story on DS!

You know.. with all these DS games I am collectiong, I really should think about actually getting a DS, eh?
Ah well.. soon as the pink one gets here I am in.

If this is true my GF will be happy, New Zealand story is one of her faves, primarily because you play a cute kiwi. ^^;
That may change if the artwork is as horrible as it was for Bubble Bobble Revolution...

It's the only game I can think of that has ever had anything to do with New Zealand. hehe.

I hope they do The New Zealand story justice on the DS with revamped graphics and some new toys to work with.
I personally would like to see a 'Haka' weapon where you'd have a wall of maouris in front of you just mowing stuff down.Now that'd be cool.

I've never played contra, but reading the first nintendo power it says, 'The year is 2631, and a mysterious meteor has landed on that Galga Islands in New Zealand' icon_razz.gif
