Konami’s Koji Igarashi recently gave IGN an interview to discuss the upcoming DS Castlevania game Castlevania Portrait of Ruin, and when asked about co-op, he had this to say: "We are going to include co-op play with the Wi-Fi Connection. But, I have to tell you, because we drastically changed the game system for the DS, we can’t include co-op mode for the main adventure. It’s a secondary adventure, like an unlockable stage. And that’s available over local and Wi-Fi Connection." He specified that it would be like the versus mode in his last game Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, and that "We’ll prepare a special, unlockable, stage that you can play with people over the internet to do co-op." He also hinted that there would be another extra-special unlockable in the game - and no, it wasn't another playable character like i most recent Castlevanias. he would only say this about it: "after you clear the game… well look forward to it".
Igarashi also made a short comment about the possibility of a Castlevania game for Nintendo's Wii console. He said he was "very interested in the Wii hardware" but that right now he "really can't think of any good ideas...[but]maybe when I go back to Japan I might come up with some brilliant idea, and I'll try to think of the possibilities."
We'll have more on Castlevania Portrait of Ruin soon. In the meantime, why don't you check out the history of Castlevania in our two part feature on the series here?
