E3 2006: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin screens
DS News | Beautiful 2D alive and well on the Nintendo DS.

As reported a while back another vampire hunting DS game is coming our way, and today we have some fresh screens of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Konami promises a larger area to explore in Portrait of Ruin then in the last DS Castlevania, Dawn of Sorrow, and players will be able to play large areas outside the Castle for the first time in 2D since Castlevania: Legends on the original Game Boy. There's also a system of skill collecting, where killing even the lest of enemies can unlock a new ability in either main character. That's right, there are two characters to choose from from the get go (a feature not seen since the first N64 Castlevania), and both characters will be playable in the same quest somehow. Konami have also promised Wi-Fi enabled multiplayer - is a co-op mode too much to ask?
Plot wise, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is set during World War II and after the Mega Drive game Castlevania: The New Generation. A vampire called Brauner and his twin daughters Loretta and Stella, and their plan to resurrect Dracula, and it's up to Jonathan Morris (descendant of the Belmont clan) and Charlotte Ocean (a relative of Castlevania 64's Carrie Fernandez) to stop them.
Enjoy the screens, and watch this space for more info!
