E3 2006: Elite Beat Agents announced for DS

DS News | Now with English screenshots.
Nintendo have announced an English version of the bizarre music rhythm action Japanese DS game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. It’s not a direct localisation, nor is it being referred to as an official sequel – so what is it?

Well, what we do know is that it will feature news songs and storylines for players to work through, but the basic gameplay will remain the same. The story sees Commander Kahn, an ex-CIA agent who now is the leader of a mysterious group of men called the “Elite Beat Agents”. He scans the world for cries of help, after locking onto one, the agents perform a ‘dance’ (cheer, liturgical movement, whatever you’d like to call it) to help those in need with crisis’ like helping a babysitter win the affections of a football player or helping a lost dog find it’s way home.

The addictive gameplay of the original is back. Players will find themselves tapping the screen in time with the music and tracing rhythmic patterns whilst trying to keep up with the hectic pace of the game. Gamer's input will directly affect the way the story unfolds on the top screen as well – i.e. if you’re going poorly, the story will take a turn for the worst.

Not too much else is known at this point, but there are six screenshots available to view in the media panel. We will bring you more information on Elite Beat Agents as it comes. For more information, check out PALGN’s review of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan here.

I have heard massive praise for this game, but the while language barrier put me off. I'll def will have to check this game out now to see what all the fuss is about. icon_wink.gif

I love it how they've westernised the Name, premise as well as character design and it still looks incredibly wacky. Definate purchase for me.

Cer: Totally agree, I think the direction they've taken the game in for the US market works well. The presentation of it is pretty good too, in my opinion. icon_smile.gif
I hope it sells really well. icon_biggrin.gif

(Having said that, I probably won't be getting it personally, due to the music. icon_lol.gif But we'll see.)

I'm predicting a lot of hostility towards this title as westernising it could make it lose it's Japanese quirkiness.

Time will tell.

Let's not forget, a game does not have to be Japanese in order to be good. icon_razz.gif

There's a trailer on IGN, but the music seems to be a placeholder, it's just a jazzy thing with no lyrics.

More Ouendan can only be a good thing.
