Point Blank shoots its way onto the DS

DS News | Dr. Don and Dr. Dan are back, possibly with a vengeance.
Namco Bandai are looking to bring their popular PlayStation and arcade shooter series Point Blank to the Nintendo DS.

Many of you would remember the Point Blank games as a comical and wacky variation on a genre that normally consists of more mature themed subject matter, the central peripheral being a gun and all. You can expect to be shooting up clay ducks, bouncy skeletons, spinning UFOs and all other manner of family friendly foes by using the stylus as your weapon and the DS touch screen as your killing field, er, make that 'happy shooting place'.

Point Blank DS will consist of a total of 5 gameplay modes. 'Arcade' mode makes up the bulk of the game and includes 4 levels of difficulty. 'Versus' mode allows wireless multiplayer action and supports single cartridge play. The curiously titled 'Brain Massage' acts as an ongoing statistical mode, where the game feeds back various percentages as you progress through the stages. Rounding out the modes is the high score centric 'Freeplay' and 'Games Museum', a nostalgia inducing romp through stages inspired by Namco's old school arcade series.

Not much else is known about the game at this time, but rest assured that PALGN will keep you informed. Stay tuned.

As I've say to segax last night about this, kinda wouldn't be as fun before as you can't really "miss" with a stylus.
Though that doesn't really stop me from getting it.

Some screens

^ Yes the stylus control will definitely make it easier, but nevertheless I'm really intrigued. The Point Blank games are some of my all time favourite arcade games.

^ agreed. i put so much money into the 2 games at my uni's arcade.

i'll have to see what it turns out like, might be another reason to buy a DS.

Point Blank without a gun? What's the fun of using style to hit things on screen? It will be too easy

If you have played Point Blank in the Arcade, you'll know that using a stylus as a gun, will lower the difficulty to extremely easy.

Like I said before, it will lower the difficulty but it should still be fun. Not every game has to have a super-crazy-insane difficulty.

^I can't even beat the game in normal mode it's that insanely hard. It's because I get so sweaty during the final round that I lose grip and it's hard to do circles. I need one of the big pens.

You need one of these, best purchase I ever made.

Or get one of those metal ones, they have more weigh on them so they don't slip out of your hands easier

Love the stylus! icon_biggrin.gif I think that it should be pretty good, the DS needs more games like this.

True, not all games have to be super-crazy-insane difficult, but super-duper easy game is no fun too. Besides Point Blank was never hard to begin with, lowering the difficulty will bring the fun down. It is like playing Dance Dance Revolution without the dancing mat.

^ Analogy maketh no sense. DDR on a controller would be hard as hell. You ever tried the highest difficulty in Frequency or Amplitude?

I actually found DDR to be easy with dual shock (even on the hardest difficulty)... I never own Frequency or Amplitude, so I can't comment on those.
