1 million Nintendo Wi-Fi users...

DS News | ...and 26 million connections.
Nintendo has announced that the one millionth individual user has logged onto their DS online service. This is especially impressive given that it launched less then four months ago, and is currently only supported by three games. The millionth user was a Japanese gamer, who was logging on to Animal Crossing: Wild World.

Nintendo released this statement about the milestone: “We are delighted to have experienced such a high take-up of our Wi-Fi Connection service in such a short period of time. The accessibility of the service is a key factor in its success - we have made Wi-Fi gaming simple and affordable to everyone.”

Reggie Fils-Aime (aka "The Regginator") had this to say: "Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service. Those 1 million users represent more than 27 million game sessions."

These numbers are also set to rise dramatically due to the impending US release of the next big Wi-fi games, Metroid Prime: Hunters and Tetris DS (while the eventual European release of Animal Crossing may help too). And with the upcoming voice chat in Hunters and DS browser, it seems the only place to go is up.

It's not possible (without tunneling). icon_smile.gif

Nice to see it's taken off so well, and JimDash's right, I'm sure Hunters is gonna raise that number significantly.

In Japan at least, I can see Tetris Online for the DS becoming another cultural phenomina--It'll be amazing to see how many people try it out there.

As for Metorid Prime Hunters, it should do well in the American/Euro(?) marketplace. Are FPS games popular throughout Europe? I'm not that familiar with it...

Well my experiences with getting Animal Crossing up and running for my son wasn't seamless nor pratical for a 12 year old.

Not to mention the difficulty in getting information about towns etc. from friends.

We haven't tried more open games like Mario Kart. Hope its a better experience.
