Nintendo DS celebrates its 1st birthday

DS News | More importantly, a DS Lite announcement is on the way...
Nintendo DS has just celebrated it’s one year anniversary. The handheld debuted on February 24th, 2005 and Nintendo have confirmed that over the holiday season the Nintendo DS was the highest selling handheld console in Australia, no doubt the handheld was fueled by quality releases like Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS and Metroid Prime Pinball.

However, that's not the big issue here. As well all know, Nintendo don’t like to reveal all their cards at once. The press release formally announcing the year anniversary also made mention that the Nintendo DS Lite will be available in Australia, with details of the Australian launch to be announced shortly.

The Nintendo DS has a lot of titles due in the next few months that should keep the handheld selling. Nintendo made mention that Tetris DS will be available in April, followed closely by Metroid Prime Hunters, Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain? and New Super Marios Bros. No exact date was announced for New Super Mario Bros, but it looks like the game will come out very close to its US counterpart.

We’ll have more information on New Super Mario Bros. and DS Lite launch soon.

How sad... only 1 year and DS is going to be replaced by DS Lite. I felt being cheated.
