Blue DS Lites to be delayed

DS News | Problems during production put coloured Lites back a week.
Attention all would-be importers of Nintendo's upcoming DS Lite handheld: if you are intending to have a DS Lite shipped in, you may have to settle for a white one, unless you're happy to wait an extra week. Earlier today, Nintendo announced that it would not be releasing the Ice Blue and Enamel Navy versions of the Lite in Japan until March 11th, seven days after the launch of the white model.

The company has apologised for the delay, explaining that an irregular colour generated during production meant that few Ice Blue and Enamel Navy units have been successfully manufactured. It's all here. In er, Japanese. Nevertheless, the ravenous demand in Japan for all things DS means that such a delay is hardly likely to have a seriously negative impact on the commercial performance of the console. And of course, by the time it launches in Europe and Australia, it's likely any stock shortages will have been resolved.

More on this as we get it, and expect a DS Lite hands-on soon.
