New Metroid Prime Hunters info

DS News | For both single and multiplayer.
Some DS gamers have been playing a sample of Metroid Prime: Hunters for a while now, since the initial batch of Nintendo DS systems came bundled with a short single and multiplayer demo of the game. And given the DS launched in November 2004 in the US and Japan, and currently has it's release date set at March 2006, does Hunters hold the record for longest gap between official demo and full release, at least for a non PC game?

Well, rest assured, the wait has not been for nothing. Following up on the recent online success of Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing, Nintendo want us to keep in mind what will perhaps be the biggest Wifi Connection game yet, and have released some new information about Metroid Prime: Hunters to that end. It has been announced previously that the game will be online via Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service, but here's the new info we've received:

- Metroid Prime: Hunters is set between Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

- The game will be set on 5 separate planets, with over 25 different areas, all of which can be used in multiplayer deathmatch. Will we finally see Zebes (From Metroid 1 and 3) or SR388 (From Metroid 2 and 4) in 3D?

- There will be several playable Bounty Hunter characters, each with their own unique ship, armour and features. One of the hunters, Weavel, is able to remove parts of his body for use as gun turrets, ala Perfect Dark's briefcase gun.

- The single-player quest will be a non-linear hunt for the Alimbic artifacts. Samus must fly to a planet and search for the items, but the other hunters are also after them, and if they get it first, Samus must then get in her ship and hunt the hunter! (Note: It has not been made clear if the game will contain space flight gameplay between planets, or if it will be via cutscene only).

- Nintendo are apparently so pleased with the character designs of the other bounty hunters in the game, they are already considering spin off games for some of them!

Metroid Prime: Hunters is scheduled for release on March 20th in the USA, no PAL release date has been set. We'll keep you informed of updates!

Very cool! My hype for this game just got knocked up a notch. BAM!

I think this will be all the motivation I need to finally get my hands on that elusive wifi adapter. I know, as if there wasn't enough already...

^ It's alright Lahiru, we're on the same boat...

I'll get this, but is not a game that I'm dieing for though.

I really want this game, and I was sceptical about the other players thing, but now it makes perfect sense (first I heard about the whole race for the same items). I hope that it actually works in a timed manner, so you could very well find all pieces without ever facing a bounty hunter. I also think it'd be cool if you randomly bump into them every now and then and fight for a bit until someone runs away.

Yeah sounds great icon_biggrin.gif Like Sin Ogaris, I hope that after several playthroughs you can be good enough to gather all the pieces without fighting the other space pirates.

I wonder what spin-off game/s the other bounty hunters will be in and for what platform/s?

In the Australian section of the Nintendo Wi-Fi site, it did state that the game will also be released on March the 20th as well. But now, it looks like those details have been updated. What a let down.

They've been pretty good at getting the DS games to us quickly these days though, the only problem is they cost more here. But high profile games are usually subject to a price war, and $58 for Mario Kart DS at launch was quite good!

Not really, the only reason that they are US imports is because thats what they gave me when I bought them in Singapore on holiday.

The DS just gets even more enticing by the day, doesn't it? *sigh*

Edited for truth.

Looks good to me.
