Online Mario Kart: rather popular

DS News | 45% of new owners drive online.
Nintendo has been bragging today about the popularity of Mario Kart DS, and in particular the number of people who are playing the game online, via Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service. Hardly surprising really, because if you've read our review, you'll know it's a splendid title.

Just over a week since launching in the US, the game has sold 112,000 copies. Of those, a cool 52,000 unique users have logged on to play the game online, meaning a respectable 45% of Mario Kart DS owners have already made use of the free online service offered by Nintendo.

Sadly, we've not received any figures for Australia (nor have we for Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, the one other game compatible with the Wi-Fi Connection service), and there won't be any for Europe as, er...the game doesn't launch there until this coming Friday. Your correspondent will see you online then.

That's a pretty impressive sum. I'm sure anybody with the ability to connect to Nintendo's WFC will have done so. I can't see any reason why they wouldn't want to, it is free after all. Which then brings me to the conclusion that there are 60,000 US Mario Kart DS owning citizens who cannot connect for one reason or another.

If it's for my reason, then it's because their router is a p.o.s that won't give them a frickn break. icon_mad.gif

Ahh,
I wouldn't be that afraid of CL doing that, London is quite far away from Melbourne. XD
Although, he could be a very good shot, so if you do just watch out for flying... icon_razz.gif

Who says he uses the lube on Lahiru? icon_wink.gif

I'd go online if I can be stuffed ordering a dongle. As it stands I could play at my brother's place since he has a WAP, so I don't know whether it's worth it.

Yesterday the Nintendo WFC was so bad for me. I waited a quarter of an hour for a match then after only 3 races all 3 of my opponents had quit. I was so cut.

I really hope improvements to the WFC are made in the future, ie. not being able to quit halfway through etc.

However on a brighter note, 45% is excellent.

if someone turns off their DS you can't really stop it. I'd prefer a record of disconnections along with wins/losses, so you can spot quitters.

Hopefully, Nintendo will take these figures to heart and realise that consumers enjoy playing games online.

and the nintendo will realise they kept them playing so much, they're unable to sell any more products icon_razz.gif
