Mario Kart Aussie showdown

DS Feature | Think you're good at Mario Kart? Come and prove it.
PALGN is pleased to announce that we've teamed up with Vooks.net to work on an event that hasn't been done before in Australia. We're having a cross site, Mario Kart DS tournament and we're enlisting the help of our readers to help us win!

We're looking for twenty of our readers to take on twenty Vooks.net forum members for supreme glory and praise from our staff and readers. PALGN will be choosing one of our members and they will win a copy of Sonic Gems Collection and Spartan: Total Warrior on the Gamecube as well as a copy of Metal Slug on the Gameboy Advance.

Everyone is eligible to enter (although only non staff members may win the prize) and we'll be choosing twenty random people who reply to this article to represent us. (Times and dates for all of the showdowns will be revealed closer to race day), but there will be a few days to race each event, most events will take place between 7pm and 9pm.

We'll unveil the full details of the competition shortly, but first we're after our twenty members who think they're good at Mario Kart. So what are you waiting for? Reply in this article.

You're not meant to have sex games with the naked women on your boat, in God of War either.

You're not meant to trap your townsfolk by surrounding them with holes in Animal Crossing. Neither are you meant to Time Travel and hack items and sell them via Wifi.

You're not meant to camp in CS with the Awp.

You're not meant to bounce the ball out of grounds from kick off, retaining posession in NRL 2003.

I say, you have to snake just to be competitive. It's in the game and so are the above things I have mentioned, therefore you should be able to do it.
An intentionally placed minigame, being an idiot, cheating, an annoying but legit tactic, a bug(?) and finally an exploit. All the things you mention are different things and they're single-player so no one cares. The exception is CS of course, and a properly made CS map has multiple paths and so on which makes camping not the only way to win.

pfft, if it's in the game, use it, exploit it until it's fixed IMO.
I wish! I'm pretty sure you can't update a DS game.

Once again I seem to be almost alone on this, so I don't think i'll play in the tourney, I would no doubt spend all my time swearing instead of enjoying myself icon_rolleyes.gif

Ok after playing against a wide array of human players I think that heavy karts are way underpowered. Sure they have top speed, but acceleration is a killer especially if you get taken out with multipleitem. Couple with the fact that they instantly stop when they go off the road, light karts are just so much better. This is not even including light karts snaking or the ease of taking shortcuts... when that happens heavy karts may was well just leave.

If only they changed what stat influenced sliding mini boosts... like top speed instead of acceleration. Knock some power out of snakers and boost heavies with one stone.

Heavy
+Top speed
+Knock karts around. Very useful on some tracks.
- Poor acceleration.
- Top speed doesn't really to much in a kart game as you constantly getting hit by something and having to build speed up again.
- Poor boost from sliding.
- Poor handling makes it harder on certain tracks. Can't snake. (Why would you though with the crummy boost they get.)
- Going of track SEVERLY slows the kart down, making it useless.
- Can't take off road shortcuts as easy as light karts because of the slowdown and lack of slide boost.
- Can't make jumps as easy.

Light
Everything from above pretty much except switch the +'s and -'s

Doesn't equal up very well in my opinion.

^^ Agreed. Some people say that the karts are even due to poor acceleration = top speed and vise versa. Theoretically, if you are skilled and use a heavy kart you won't need to accelerate more than once during the game(the start), but due to the high amount of red and blue shells, chances are you'r going to have to stop and start a great deal.

Also like Beepos said, this is without even taking into consideratin snaking!

I didn't even snake a month ago, I was winning alot of my races just from powersliding every corner.......but then while searching through worldwide I came across this dude named azen......
I dont know if any1's heard of him, He's one of the best mkds player on the planet, he's got like 900+ wins/ 3 loses.

Anyway he lets you pick the tracks, we'll I got savagly raped, over half a lap every track....so what did I do.....did I quit playing online?.......did I throw away mkds?.....did I break my DS?.....No I didn't, I went on the net and found out what snaking is, and trained everyday.....now my online record is 860w 161 loses, and still getting better everyday.

I like to race with the best now....like Michael Fried.
Michael Fried is the world record holder for MKDS Time Trials and a very good friend, and me and azen are also friends now, we had a race a few weeks ago and out of 32 tracks I won 2!, which is a big difference from the first time we raced.

You can check Michael Fried's times...which are frikin crazy at www.mariokart64.com/mkds Also azen is there, he's real name is christopher Mcmullen.

Anywayz the moral of this story is......if you cant beat 'em.....join 'em icon_eek.gif

i added the fixed bit to refer to those games that can be updated. but basically my opinion on these things is that if it's in the game, it's their to be used, and (as it seems to be the case here) expoited/misused.

snaking is always going to be abused until something can be done to remove it (which will never happen). therefore, you should be using it against others that do it. sure, against your friends you can have gentleman's agreements not to use it. but tough titties playing Wifi.

A fairly old article but I think it concerns some people here, talking about MK: DS not changing
6 years ago
^yeah whoever said MK DS wont change just got Punk'd, X'd, etc. That article must be true because anyone who can post a news article online must be telling the truth, and not fabricating a story from the depths of their ass.

Half of it is speculation. They 'expect' checked to come in months because of a survey. Survey's don't indicate squat. Obviously they are concerned that their underdeveloped Wifi set up is getting a million complaints and something needs to be done, but this is just speculation.

I'm not saying that MK can't be changed either, I'm saying theres no fact in the article.
