Nintendogs sells 250,000 in its first week

DS News | In the USA, the DS dogs have their day.
Nintendogs, the new 'puppy simulator' for the Nintendo DS, has sold like hotdogs in its first week in the USA, with Nintendo reporting sales of over a quarter of a million copies in just the first week. This makes it the best-selling new game franchise ever for a portable system, even beating out behemoth portable names like Tetris and Pokémon.

'Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week, a virtually unprecedented adoption rate for any title on an established system,' said everybody's favourite man-mountain Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing and a man in need of a shorter job title. 'And it's also helping sell new DS hardware. Coupled with a price drop to [US]$129.99, retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors.'

Many retailers have sold out of the ultra-cute doggy experience, but Nintendo is promising they'll deliver more shipments as soon as possible. We bet they are.

Nintendogs will launch in Australia on September 22nd and will 'leave its mark' in the UK on October 7th. We'll see if it sinks or doggy paddles in PAL territories soon.

I quite liked the 'leave it's mark' pun, but it's not corny enough to be reprimanded! Nice bit of poetry in the blurb there. icon_razz.gif
