Whilst previous shots of the game haven't included anything on the DS touchscreen, these new images do show both screens in action, with the bottom screen acting as an inventory of sorts, allowing players to store objects in the single player mode. It'll be possible for players to store up to three objects in their inventory, and the items are selected by simply touching the bottom screen.
The touchscreen will also display how far through the level the player is, as well as include the amount of coins the player has collected, the time left and the player's score. Which is helpful.
Three images of the game in action can be found in the Media Panel. New Super Mario Bros. is set for release next year on the Nintendo DS, and as it's the first original 2D Mario platform title in ages, it's fair to say we're rather excited.
